Class Valedictorian
Chooses Nursing
C
ourtney, daughter of
John and Ellen Abbott,
plans to pursue a career in
nursing at the University
of Alabama, Birmingham
(UAB). “I selected UAB because of their outstanding
medical/health program,”
she shared. “Plus, I enjoyed
the campus and the people.” Courtney had other
options; she was offered
a $17,500 annual scholarship to attend Berry College. To insure that this Eagle
did not fly the coup, UAB provided their own incentive:
a $12,000 annual scholarship. When asked how Nashville Christian School (NCS) prepared her for college and
beyond, Courtney responded: “NCS has been an incredible foundation in my life. The school has helped me grow
spiritually, physically, and mentally. I am truly blessed
to have been able to attend a quality institution. What
I have learned here will benefit me immensely now and
in the future. I will greatly miss the family environment
at Nashville Christian—I do not know of another school
that has anything like it.”

lex is the son of Steve and Darlete Bishop AND the recipient of the 2014 Jim Lincoln Award & John McCarley
Scholarship (awarded annually to a NCS student who excels
academically and demonstrates integrity and leadership).
He will major in business at Western Kentucky University
(WKU). Like so many others from the Class of 2014, Alex
had options. He was offered over $180,000 in scholarships from several universities…but there was something
about WKU. “I selected this
university because it just felt
right,” Alex recalled. “Sometimes when you walk on a
campus, you just know that
this is the school is for you.”
Alex realizes and accepts
that the university environment will be different. “Everyone knows one another
at NCS,” he reflected. “We
are a very close-knit family
and I will miss that this fall.”
When asked if NCS has prepared him for college, Alex was
quick to answer: “Nashville Christian taught me so much.
I’ve grown physically, mentally, and definitely spiritually.
These qualities will help me to be as successful as I want to
be in life. I just have to believe in myself and my abilities…
and good things will happen.”

Tremendous SUPPORT!
N
ashville Christian received support from MANY mutual
relationships. The deliberate demonstration of faith and
commitment from parents, grandparents, alumni, neighbors
and partners strengthened, and sustained our school, and
gave wings to our mission and vision throughout the 201314 school year. Here are some examples of that support:
> $50,000 – from Nashville Christian Grandparents
> $46,000 (to date) – from current families for the Nashville
Christian Fund (annual fund campaign to raise unrestricted
dollars to meet the school’s operating budget)
> $12,000 – from NCS Faculty and Staff, who also dug deep
to contribute to the Nashville Christian Fund
> $43,000 – from the NCS Annual Dinner & Auction
> $17,000 – from various Friends of NCS
> $12,000 – from Magazine/Gift sales

“Family, friends, faculty, staff, and students rallied to support
these events,” Karen Whelan, Director of Development and
Alumni Relations, extolled. “They invested in our students,
our teachers, and the future of our school.”

Awarded Scholarship
B
rittany, daughter of Kelvin and Dedee Hayes, accepted
a $21,000 annual scholarship to attend Freed Hardeman (FHU), a small private Christian university that is
located in Henderson, Tennessee. Brittany was offered
a scholarship from another university as well, but was
drawn to FHU. “I selected FHU because I wanted a small
Christian environment like NCS,” Brittany asserted. As certain as she was about WHERE she wanted to go to school,
Brittany was equally uncertain about WHAT she wanted to
take. “I am a very undecided major,” she revealed. “I have
zero clue as to what God has planned for me, but I am
hopeful that FHU will help me become all that He wants
me to be.” NCS strives to foster hope and faith like Brittany’s in all its students—helping them realize and pursue their full potential—spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially. “It‘s the
people that make Nashville
Christian what it is. I love
this school. It has been a
part of my life for 16 years;
I will never forget it. I am
going to do everything in
my power to help my parents send my sisters here so
that they can get the same
quality education.”
here has been a BIG jump in enrollment at NCS. “Last
semester we had 30 students enroll,” reported Phillip
Montgomery, Admissions Director. “That is more students
than the previous 3 years combined!” Others have also
noted the trend; the Nashville Business Journal recognized
NCS for having the highest percentage of overall enrollment
growth (17.9%) from the previous school year. Along with
growth comes change. “Due to these increases,” Phillip
noted, “we are making plans for additional classes and
instructors.” THIS is but one of the many milestones that NCS
students, faculty, and administration achieved throughout
the 2013-14 school year. > Click and see for yourself.
