DSP Presentation on Employer Supports
2nd October 2014
Rose O Brien /Tommy O Doherty
We have been given a mandate to change
and we are changing….
“Put simply, no-one who loses
his/her job should be allowed to
drift, with no support, into long
term unemployment. “
Pathways to Work
Paragraph 4, page 7.
“To assist employers in recruiting
employees from the Live Register and
to provide an incentive to employers to
offer opportunities to unemployed
people – particularly the long-term
unemployed”
A change that is as focussed on employers as it is
on unemployed people…
Pathways to Work sets out 5
Strands of activity…
1. More regular and on-going engagement with
people who are unemployed
2. Greater targeting of activation places and
opportunities
3. Incentivising the take-up of opportunities
4. Incentivising employers to provide more jobs
for people who are unemployed, and
5. Reforming institutions to deliver better services
to people who are unemployed.
