Matt Traver
Synopsis: A PORTRAIT OF OROZBEK is an in-depth look at the life of Orozbek, a Tajik-Kyrgyz hunter and
herder living in the remote Pamir Mountains of south-eastern Tajikistan near the Afghan border.
The aim of the film is to take the audience on a visual exploration of his life and those of the other ethnic
Kyrgyz in the remote and often nomadic communities around him. As the film progresses and Matthew and
Jamie spend more time with Orozbek, the true wonders and mysteries of Pamirs begin to reveal themselves;
ranging from ancient mines, archaeological discoveries and a mysterious organic painkiller.

to "Being There" in English, is the new film from Stefan Häusl and Björn Heregger that has already excited the
freeride scene. After successful premiers at the Mountain Film Festival in St. Anton in Arlberg and the
international Freeski Film Festival iF3 the new movie is now on tour with the Freeride Film Festival. Besides
roaring freeride action and technical skiing from the two protagonists Stefan Häusl and Björn Hereggeer,
Dasein brings an intriguing aspect to the table. It centres around the question of survival, of being there for
each other on the mountain while at the same time being there for friends and family at home. Produced by Hanno Mackowitz

Huayhuash
Joey Shusler
Synopsis: “¿Huayhuash?¿¡Huayhuash con bici’s!? No. No noooo… Es imposible.” In the winter of 2014, three
friends set out on a self supported ride, looking for nothing more than a truly genuine experience. The goal: to
circumnavigate one of the most wonderful and wicked mountain ranges in the world – the Huayhuash, by
bicycle.
This was all a spur of the moment idea; part of the vicious cycle of making every adventure more thrilling than
the last. January was the off-season, or rainy season, for the Andes so the wilderness would be completely
desolate. The three friends hoped to be the second group to complete this trek on bikes. However, they
underestimated the relentless weather they would encounter as they traveled for a week above treeline.
The friends tagged first descents down rocky couloirs and 16,000ft passes, watched sunrises against the tallest
peaks in the country, and slept to the sounds of serac fall at night.
In the end, they didn't quite make it as far as they had hoped. Between rain storms, concussions and waving
guns the Huayhuash had ripped at their eager ambitions. A sense of wonder was fulfilled and the friendship of
three adventure loving friends was reinforced. Huayhuash is the story of genuine adventure and the challenges
that come along with it.

Il sogno Carsico di Istettai
Vittorio Crobu
Synopsis: Istettai, a dream, a nightmare, a cave searched for by gerenations of cavers in the past decennia and
discovered recently in the depths of Supramonte, in the central eastern part of Sardinia. The underground river
that brings water to the distant Su Gologone resurgence is down there and continuous flowing forever.
We followed this precious water up to over half a kilometer depth, through progressively more difficult
explorations, but the portion we discovered is only a very small part of its subterranean course. The great karst
system of Supramonte still remains to be fully explored.

Into the Empty Quarter
Scott Lottes-Alastair Humphreys
Synopsis: Wilfred Thesiger was one of my heroes. It was his books who inspired me to join (very briefly!) his old
Boxing Club at university. They encouraged me to think ambitiously but simply about making big journeys. And
when he died (I was cycling through South America at the time), I felt sad that I never had the opportunity to
meet him.
Thesiger pushed himself hard to test himself. He lived ascetically, and scorned modern convenience, speed and
luxury. The harder the life, he believed, the finer the person. His prose is simple and measured, thoughtful and
honest. His photography was superb, particularly when you consider that he took fewer photographs in an
entire expedition than I do on a single day. Thesiger “had the man’s courage to live out the boy’s dream.” And
ever since I read Arabian Sands, I have dreamed of one day making a journey in Thesiger’s footsteps.
So Leon McCarron and I walked 1000 miles across the Arabian Peninsula, inspired by the spirit of Thesiger’s
own expeditions in the Rub ‘al Khali desert, the Empty Quarter.
"Into The Empty Quarter" will tell the story of our journey.

The Land Of
Stefan Hunt

Thailand, a place known more for its party scene than its surf culture, as they seek to find a sense of purpose

‘Waves for Water’ filters, take part in the Bangkok Flood relief, lend a hand at Baan Santisuk orphanage and
teach local groms how to catch waves and trust the ocean again post the 2006 tsunami.
Director Stefan Hunt (IM LAURA, Somewhere Near Tapachula) has once again created something that moves
beyond surf in his mission to inspire positive change through creativity. The Land Of is a completely
independent project, funded by those involved.

Sardinia Bloc Scouting
Pietro Porro; Ricky Felderer
Synopsis: Sardinia is not only a magical land but also a climber's paradise - with lots and lots of rock, the
majority of which is still unexplored. In the collective imagination the region is a sea of limestone, but in fact,
it's the amount of granite that most people find most surprising. Gallura, in the north of the island, is the
Sardinian granite region. The land is almost completely dotted with climbing blocks: a haven of boulders
haphazardly strewn about in an incredibly charming and beautiful setting.
This sparked La Sportiva's idea to
bring their ambassadors to Gallura. These are some of the strongest boulder climbers in the world who, armed
with brushes and good skins, begun to explore and exploit this vast area of blocks. The aim was to both give
something to the island in terms of climbing culture, encouraging the development of a "vertical attendance"
people climbing blocks in the area. Leading this special operation was Pietro Dal Pra, the expert of the area and
historically tied to the land of Sardinia. At his side were Nalle Hukkataival and his trusted companion Anthony
Gullsten, along with the sparkling Cody Roth, the Italians Michele Caminati and Silvio Reffo, the guru of our
national blocks Marzio Nardi, the super-couple Pearson--Ciavaldini and the young sensation Fabian Buhl. With
the help of some willing Sardinian boulderers, the La Sportiva team was at work from 9-17 November 2013;
exploring, cleaning and climbing.
This calendar collect the best pictures from the Sardinian trip and it will be
followed in 2014 by a complete guide to the bouldering areas and by a short movie who will recap the full
experience. With the explicit invitation to go there and find your own new boulders, continuing what La
Sportiva has only begun...
Split Decisions (Tiny House Tour 2014, Episode 4)
Right On Brother Films
SYNOPSIS- For decades, only skiers could travel deep into the backcountry. Splitboarding
changed all that.
Now snowboarders cut their favorite board in half (or acquire a factory cut splitboard) in order to travel,
efficiently, in the backcountry. Next, they install one of a number of recently developed binding systems,
which magically transform their board into cross-country style skis. Finally, placing skins on the bottom of
their boards for traction and using poles, just like skiers, they hike up. An occasional sketchy decent may be
attempted, merely to get from one point of ascent to another, but splitboarders seldom ride downhill in skimode. This generally ends in a face plant. Instead, they transform their equipment back into a snowboard—
and skiers watch in envy as they surf down the mountain, bouncing from one powder roll to the next. Split
Decision breaks down the process and purpose of this revolutionary style of snow riding. Filmed throughout
the western united states, all this season, this short film takes you for a ride. Please enjoy the latest from Right
On Brother.

The Untouched Project
LegitFilms – Mitja Legat
Synopsis: “Untouched” is a Slovenian film project, connecting skiing and snowboarding in the backcountry
areas, combined with the love of nature and exploration of untouched mountainsides in winter season.
The presenters of the film are snowboarders Domen Bizjak and Matevž Pristavec (both top competitors in FIS
Big air) as well as Matevž Maček (a competitor at freeride competitions FWQ).
New school skiing has been
gaining popularity for several years, although Alpine skiing as we know it now actually evolved from freeride.
This new style is presented by Bine Žalohar, multiple national champion in all disciplines.
All of them are experienced competitors whom we wish to present in a completely new light, emphasizing
mostly their creativity and ability to transmit tricks from the park to natural environment.
There is also a big list of friends that enjoy the same things and everybody made a great contribution to the
film:
Marko Grilc, Luka Jeromel, Stefan Gimpl, Thomas Feurstein, Tadej Valentan, Mitja Kodrič, Žiga Erlač,
Žiga Rakovec, Luka Podlogar, Dejan Hodžič, Andraž Šparovec, Matti Imbert, Luka Krajnik, Andrej Marinčič,

The Weight of the Mountains
Temujin Doran
Synoipsis: This is a short film about the processes by which mountains are created and eventually destroyed. It
is based upon the work of British geographer L. Dudley Stamp, and was shot in Iceland.
Physical geography and geology is an enormous and fascinating subject, and this film only touches upon the
surface of the discipline. For those who wish to further advance their knowledge in this field, additional reading
and research is recommended.

they left a mark in the mountaneering worls in the most important peak of the Appennini, the Great Stone
(Gran Sasso), when they made two first ascents in one day that then became two of the most challanging ways
climbers could face in the area.
