INCONET-GCC2
• INCONET-GCC2 is an International Cooperation
Network between EU and the Arab Gulf Countries
• The main goal: support and strengthen
institutional bi-regional policy dialogue in
Science, Technology and Innovation (STI),
strengthen bi-regional cooperation between
research and innovation actors
• Duration of the project is 3 years (01/2014 –
12/2016)
The Consortium
• 20 Key Players and actors from EU and GCC in
Research & Innovation.
• The consortium consists of 10 partners from
EU, 8 partners from Arab Gulf Countries, and 2
partners from South Mediterranean (Egypt,
Morocco)

Main Objectives:
Strengthen policy dialogue
Organize Cluster activities in selected research priorities
Enhance Capacity Building in GCC
Roadmap future research and innovation activities
Raise awareness – Disseminate information
Activities taken already:
• Identify research areas of mutual interest. Building on
the outcomes of INCONET-GCC, the project consortium
is focusing now in 2 main research areas: Diabetes &
Smart Cities
• Both research areas are highly prioritized in EU and
GCC. Project partners are 2 significant players in the
GCC: Dasman Diabetes Institute – Kuwait and MASDAR
– UAE.
• 2 workshops on Diabetes & Smart Cities occurred. 2
Reports (1 for each Area) about the current status of
bilateral cooperation & recommended steps to
enhance cooperation and overcome hurdles.
Activities to be taken:
• Organize info days and workshops in GCC on
Diabetes & Smart Cities, promoting specific
opportunities of creating synergies.
• Information days about the opportunities that
exist in these fields in terms of research
collaboration
• Capacity building through researcher mobility
and summer schools
• Online presentation of information related to
researchers opportunities
