GFL STANDING RULE NO. 4

FIELD MARSHALL RESPONSIBILITIES
I.
A. Prior to Game day
If the official’s schedule is completed with the field schedule, need to call and verify
officials.
B. Game Day (Prior to the start of the game)
I.
The field needs to be ready for use ½ hour before the game or games.
a. Grass cut, lines marked every 5 yard line, markers at least on 1 side of field, goal
lines and end lines marked and designated.
b. Field needs to be roped off for the spectators from the 15 yard line to the 15 yard
line. If there are other restrictions depending on the location they need to be
followed. EXAMPLE: School field with a track and the fans need to stay in the
stands.
c. The ropes need to be at least 10 yards from the sideline if at all possible.
d. All fans need to be within the 15 yard lines. EXAMPLE: No spectators at the
back of the end zones.

Need to have a good set of chains, set at 10 yards and a working down marker. They need
to stay on the home team side.
III.
The clock needs to be operational and visible for the officials.
IV.
Needs to make contact with both head coaches and remind them they need to verify ID
cards 10 minutes before scheduled game time. (If a player is not present for pre-game ID
check they are not allowed to play. Opposing coach may waive this rule. The opposing
coach is not required to make exceptions but he is allowed to if he chooses too.)
V.
Needs to make sure teams are at the field at the appropriate time. (Game time is kickoff
time) All preparation should be done. If you are following a game should be aware of the
clock situation, be ready to go ahead of schedule (up to 10 minutes) especially if there is
multiple games.
VI.
Verify any jersey color conflicts. Home team is responsible if the jerseys are the same.
Change jersey’s or wears pennies.
VII.
Verify that officials are present.
C. During Game
I.
Be aware of game surroundings.

Handle crowd issues in conjunction with the officials if asked to. If necessary tape or
make notes for a report.
III.
Check with the officials at halftime for any issues.
IV.
Pay officials at halftime of their last game. (We don’t want officials hanging around after
the game unless a report needs to be discussed for conduct, ejections etc.)
D. End of Game

Be aware of the spectators, coaches and the teams conduct.
Check with officials if anything needs to be reported for conduct, ejections etc.

I.
Any reports that you process needs to be turned in from the org. representative and turned
in promptly. Weekend games with the scores on Monday and 24 hours from game if
during the week. Repercussions for not reporting ejection or incident can result in
suspension and/or fine depending on the severity of issue and ruling by the GFL
executive board.
E. Inclement Weather
Follow the procedure that will be set up for the officials due to changing game times.
