As we advance deeper into the networked knowledge society, we start to realise that our managerial and
governance systems and our thinking are stuck in the industrial era. It is time for reinventing management.
Offering understanding of the management issues that arise when ‘continuous creative business development’
has to be a core competency of the organisation, recognizing the difficulties in the simultaneous orchestration
of the existing (transaction) and the innovative (transformation) activities in the field of product and/or market
and/or primary process. Dr. Liliya Terzieva completed her promotion on the competitive advantages of leisure
and tourism organizations and has been busy with the organizational development issues within the new
managerial paradigm for the last 7 years. She will ‘host’ the evening: introducing the books , presenting the
students and empowering the interactive discussion with the participants at the end of the session.

‘Seeing the World Anew’
Tuesday, December 2, 2014
The hyperconnected society, complexity thinking, design thinking,
today we realize that our conventional thinking falls short in coping with
much of the organizational and societal issues we face today. We need
new thinking and new competencies in order to make our organizations
flourish in today’s society. Professor Diane Nijs recently completed her
promotion on designing for emergence, designing to unleash a culture
of innovation. She will ‘host’ the evening: introducing the books and the
presenting students and finally empower the interactive discussion with
the participants at the end of the session.
Designing conversations – is about creative processes, meaning making, generative dialogue and critical/creative
thinking producing transformation in the context of organizations. In order to design effective interventions, it is
important to prepare the space in order to engage participants, generating a sense of responsibility and commitment. For that some methods and tools can be applied in order to work with individuals, groups and organizations
as a whole. As a professional of the 21st century it is fundamental to develop a “hybrid tool box”, being able to
design a conversation / a creative session, asking powerful questions, taking into account the context and the local
needs of the involved. Celiane Camargo-Borges is the host of this evening. Her work focuses on relational forms of
practices creating a more effective means of collaboration and decision making. She is interested in exploring how
individuals can come together through dialogic relations – cultivating interaction participation and collaboration.
The books presented on this evening bring a flavour of this theme and we will have a change to discuss it further.
Not just seeing organizations as living systems
but also treating them as such.
Nijs, D., Professor Imagineering, NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences
Seeing things differently is urgently needed in today’s exponentially
connected society in business as well as in society. Luckily we are aware
that there is a bunch of new books bringing new insights that help us
liberate organizations from their industrial shackles.
Open Your Mind, our three sessions of 120-minutes briefings from
Imagineering Academy, celebrates these new insights and knowledge
in an inspiring and fun way. Introduced by a professor of NHTV/Imagineering Academy, Master students present three recent books
(each book presented in 20 minutes) to make you see things differently.
Brought in the three phases of a design process: Inspiration, Ideation,
Implementation, annuallywe help you free your mind by presenting you
cutting edge new books related to the specific phases so to empower
you for the interventions you make on a daily basis in your organization
and/or society at large.
From Open Your Mind…
> You get insights from complexity thinking and design thinking
in management;
> You keep up to date with recent books from the perspective of
living systems;
> You …will see the world anew.
The Improvising Society
by Hans Boutellier, 2013,
Eleven International Publishing.
The Improvising Society sheds new
light on the complexity of today’s
society. Feelings of chaos and
confusion are common. There is
discontent among citizens, and
uncertainty and lack of direction
among administrators, managers,
and public officials. It seems as
though no one has a clear perspective
on what is happening to society,
and yet … perhaps we have
overlooked something?
