ZEF Student Enrichment Grants - Investing in Innovation Outside the
Classroom
A student academic team achieves greatness in competition
and is rewarded with the chance to compete at a national or
global level. Students in an extracurricular club identify an
opportunity to further their knowledge and experience that will
help them grow in their field and bring recognition to their
school. Right at the time they are preparing for this opportunity
they are also faced with the daunting task of fundraising. This

competition, conference or project is far beyond the
extracurricular activity budget for the school. How can these
high-achieving student groups reach their goals?
ZEF Student Enrichment Grants, created in 2010, are
provided to ZCS-sanctioned clubs that achieve national or
international levels of competition, are invited to conferences,
or want to create a project that furthers their skills outside of
the classroom. Students, not teachers, apply for and are
awarded these grants. Students must write the grant and must
raise a minimum of half of the cost of the activity.
ZEF awarded the first Student Enrichment Grant of 2014 to the
ZCHS Robotics teams. At the Indiana State Robotics
Championships on March 1, two Zionsville teams won awards.
Alex Wang, Drew Bowling, Ryan Bing, and Owen Bowling
were the State Programming Skills Champions and Andrew
Overhage, Sam Miles, Alan Fang, and Michael Wheeler won
the State Excellence Award. The ZEF Student Enrichment
Grant will allow the teams to travel to the World Robotics
Championship in Anaheim, California from April 23-27.
The demand for Student Enrichment Grants exceeds ZEF's
budget nearly every year. Thus, ZEF's event committee
created a "Fund-a-Grant" campaign that took place during last
February's Girls Night Out fundraiser. Thanks to the generosity
of those attending, ZEF was able to increase this grant's
budget to $5,000 a year. Now, even more high-achieving
student groups will benefit from the Student Enrichment Grant,
all thanks to ZEF's supporters.
Robert Goodman
Jewelers supports ZEF
throughout the year, but here's
an example you might not
know about!

ZCS teachers and staff generous in their support of ZEF
Did you know that ZCS teachers, staff and
administration donated over $12,000 to ZEF in 2013?
Through payroll deduction, ZCS employees show their
generosity and "pay-it-forward" attitude! ZCS staff also
supports ZEF in many other ways by donating items to ZEF
silent auctions, attending fundraisers, and publicizing ZEF's
programs to their students' families. We extend our heartfelt
thanks to every ZCS employee for supporting our mission.
