GIANTS NECK HEIGHTS ASSOCIATION GENERAL ASSEMBLY At The Clubhouse on Creek Road Saturday, June 28, 2014 10:00AM Present Board Members: Anthony Starace, Agnes Bellody, Steve Licitra, Rudy Croteau, Mike Fogarty and Vickey Beauregard, and Board of Governors Secretary, Jennifer Benway Meeting was called to order by President Starace at 10:05 a.m. A quorum was assured. Secretary’s Report The minutes from the last meeting were presented to the members as a handout. President Starace asked the members to look over the report and comment. No comments were made. A motion was made by Greg Lutzen to accept the minutes and was seconded by Tom Hayes. The motion was unanimously accepted. Treasurer’s Report Steve Licitra proceeded to read the Treasurer’s report to members. Please see treasurer’s report attached in the minutes. A motion was made by Cheryl Kardys to accept the treasurer’s report and was seconded by Greg Lutzen. The motion was unanimously accepted. President’s Report President Tony Starace expressed his sincere gratitude to the Board of Governors for accomplishing much and for being very supportive. An email was sent to a zoning officer about members keeping chickens on Oakwood Rd Plans are in the works to repair the dips in our roads. President Starace reported that he will be seeking re-election, but Mike Pare and Mike Fogarty will not be seeking reelection leaving 3 seats to fill on the Board of Governors. Election Greg Licitra nominated Ken Secchiaroli, Jay Nilsen nominated Tony Starace, Steve Licitra nominated Cheryl Kardys, and Ken Secchiaroli nominated Dave Saia. Index cards were handed out and a vote was cast. Congratulations to Anthony Starace for his re-election and our new members of the Board of Governors, Ken Secchiaroli and Dave Saia. New Business Mike Fogarty requested that GNHA keep some of the old tables in the clubhouse and donate the remaining tables to local schools. A motion to do so was made by Tom Hayes and seconded by Greg Lutzen. The motion was accepted. 1 Ken Secchiaroli will look into the safety of the swings and playground because a member voiced concerns about how dangerous the playground is. An 8’ X 10’ shed will be built to store our sand sifter. Good & Welfare President Starace ordered a plaque to honor Ted Chiz for stabilizing the jetty. It will be placed near the flagpole at the beach facing the water. First Selectman, Paul Formica came to address the members about happenings in East Lyme and GNH. President Starace publicly thanked First Selectman, Paul Formica, for his help with our emergency exit on Giants Neck Rd. He reported that the boardwalk is half way done and will be completed. His tent will be put up near the boardwalk for Celebrate East Lyme on July 19, 2014 concluded with fireworks at McCooks Park. Our town won fan favorite last year. He spoke about how our roads are really not a safe place for golf carts unlike the other beach neighborhoods in our town. He reported that the shopping area has been approved to be built near exit 74 off 95south. Costco was approved and will be an anchor store and modifications are being made to the bridges at exits North and South bound off of 95. Discussions turned to the problems with heroin addiction in East Lyme. Other Business Membership discussed the following: Discussions ensued about volleyball games held on our beach by nonmembers. President Starace is concerned that this can be a growing problem It was suggested that a police officer be employed to give out tickets to cars without passes. Residents expressed opinions: Mike Fogarty noted that the parking lot is for members only and perhaps one of the parking lot attendants could stay later. Carole Fedina noted that if we kept the volleyball net in the shed, outsiders would not have access to it. President Starace commented that these nonmembers are bringing their own net. Members also discussed drinking, loitering and parking lot deterioration. Greg Lutzen reminded us that we spent approximately $50,000 to refinish the parking lot and suggested that we have a parking lot attendant stay later. July 4 everyone needs a parking pass to enter the turn around. A police officer has been hired from 9:30 to 1:30 on July 4, 2014 A discussion ensued about the liability of unmarked vehicles in our neighborhood and President Starace suggested calling the police if we see any.
