EDUCATION THROUGH MUSIC INTERNATIONAL SUMMER COLLOQUIUM
Pitzer College
Claremont, CA
Education Through Music
Education Through Music is a program of song, movement, and constructive
interpersonal interaction. Designed to promote language and music literacy in
all learning environments, it deals honestly, practically, and uniquely with the
challenges teachers face in contemporary education. ETM courses approach
teaching and learning in a refreshingly different way in accordance with the nature
and development of the child and our contemporary understanding of human
behavior and cognitive development.
Developed by Mary Helen Richards over forty years ago, ETM master teachers
consistently update teacher education with extensive brain-based research in
order to articulate effective and useful ways of working with childhood behavior,
lea rning and motivation.

Summer Colloquium
Summer colloquium is an international gathering of participants for a week of
intense, topic-driven ETM study. Experienced ETM participants bring their
questions about ETM philosophy, materials, and practice to colloquium to gain
further insight from their winter study.
We look forward to sharing ETM experiences that you can use to improve children’s learning, interactive skills and emotional well-being. And, as anyone who
has ever experienced ETM can tell you, you’ll be learning while being absolutely
engaged!
Children's Fine Arts Day Camp
Our children's program changes this summer! The highly popular ETM Summer
Fine Arts Family Day Camp includes daily ETM, high-quality storytelling, and visual
art for all children. The youth portion, available for children age 3-15, includes
additional activities. Youths ages 15-17 are encouraged to attend the adult
program, as they prefer. Infants will be cared for in a separate infant care
program.
