Multilingualism in Specialized Communication: Challenges and Opportunities
in the Digital Age

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR WORKSHOPS AND COLLOQUIA
Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to participate in the 20th European Symposium on Languages for
Special Purposes (LSP 2015) to be held from 8 - 10 July 2015 at the Centre for Translation
Studies of the University of Vienna.
In this connection, you are invited to submit proposals for workshops and colloquia.
Proposals addressing the Symposium theme listed below are especially welcome, as well as
any other timely and coherent subject of broad interest to the LSP community:










domain-specific languages,
multilingualism, language policies, and socio-cultural issues of LSPs,
theoretical and methodological issues of LSP research,
LSP teaching and training,
LSP in specific languages/countries/regions of the world,
technical/specialized translation,
professional communication,
terminologies in theory and practice,
corpus-studies for LSP practice and research, and
science communication
We also welcome proposals that explore interdisciplinary connections with other areas.
Proposals should provide the following information:

Title of the workshop/colloquium;

Brief description of the content or topic and its relevance to the LSP community (5001000 words);

Intended length of the workshop/colloquium;

Information on expected format of the workshop/colloquium (e.g., invited talks,
presentations, panel discussions, etc.);

Language(s) of the workshop/colloquium;

Full contact information for all workshop/colloquium organizers, including a one-
paragraph statement summarizing their research interests and areas of expertise;

Description of target audience and expected number of participants;

Any special requirements for technical support.
If the workshop/colloquium is to have its own call for participation:

A deadline and date for notification of acceptances, and a list of individuals who have
agreed to be part of the workshop’s/colloquium’s Program Committee;

A proposed call for participation for your workshop/colloquium.
Workshops/colloquia can be organized as two, three or four 90-minute slots in one day. A
full-day workshop/colloquium typically covers four 90-minutes slots, with two 30-minute
coffee breaks and a 90-minute lunch break. A multi-day workshop/colloquium is also
possible.

Important dates for workshop/colloquium organizers:
30 January 2015 (23:59 CET) – Workshop/colloquium proposal submission
8 February 2015 – Notification on acceptance
Important dates for participants:
No later than 16 February 2015 – Publication of the call for participation by individual
workshop/colloquium organizers on the conference website
30 April 2015 – end of early-bird registration
5 June 2015 – end of regular registration
