INVITATION TO MODEL UNITED NATIONS OF HAMBURG 2014
Dear MUN-Directors,
after having successfully hosted several MUNs at our school, it is our honour, as well as our
pleasure, to invite you and your students to this year’s sixth session of Model United Nations
of Hamburg (MUNoH), which will be held from September 24th – 28th, 2014.
MUNoH is organized by the students of the profile “International Relations” who have
already attended several conferences such as JMUN in Istanbul, MUNNY in Nyborg and
RIMUN in Rome.
MUN, which is the abbreviation of Model United Nations, basically gives students the
opportunity to find solutions for current and future world problems and to interact with and
get to know students from all over the world, as well as to learn about international relations
through a simulation of the UN in a role-play.
As a result of this, students will enhance their professional and personal skills, such as
negotiating and public speaking in English, since this is the official language during the
simulation.
Students represent a UN member country or an NGO/IGO (Non-Governmental/ Intergovernmental Organization) and debate certain issues in committees or commissions.
Resolutions and policy statements of each student must be prepared before the conference.
Another requirement is the wearing of formal dress.
In the interest of advancing the quality of our debates, we kindly ask you to not only bring
inexperienced delegates with you, but to bring a “mixed” delegation that consists of both
experienced students and first timers.
Our conference will take place at Gymnasium Meiendorf which is located in Hamburg. It will
consist of several General Assembly committees, the Security Council and other councils and
commissions.
For experienced students, who have already participated in MUNs, we also offer the
possibility to apply for the position as chair of a committee or a commission. Eligible
candidates are required to write a letter of motivation as well as a letter of recommendation by
the MUN-director along with a completed student officer’s application, which will be sent on
enquiry. Please hand these in until 4th April, 2014. For more information please contact this

Please note that every delegate has to pay a conference fee of € 35.00, which includes lunches
and admission to the official party. Accommodation for participants can be offered by host
families, but due to the rising number of participants in the last years, we cannot guarantee to
provide host families for everybody. We would therefore like to ask all delegations that can
afford to stay in a hostel or hotel to kindly do so. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance - we
will gladly provide a list of reasonably priced accommodation.

February, 2014.
Also, we need to inform you that this year there has been a change in responsibilities
concerning our executive staff. The Conference Managers are now your contact persons
regarding any questions you as MUN Directors may have. The Secretaries General are the
contact persons for your delegates and the PGA is responsible for the student officers (i.e.
chairs).

Please note that due to organisational problems in the past we need your students to refrain
from changing host families out of their own accord. We will do our very best to take into
consideration any wishes your students may have, but please respect that providing host
families for more than 100 students is a complex task that needs to be solely put into the
