St. Francis bowlers win two from St. Joe's
The St. Francis bowling team won team with a 590 set, including a
two games from St. Joe's last week 239. St. Francis now has a 7-8 record
as freshman Greg Callahan led the in the Msgr. Martin Association.
Callahan rolled a 206 his first
game, a team loss by 38 pins. His
239 came in the second game, in
which Jonathan Kroll bowled a 227
(574 set). The Red Raiders took the
third game by two pins as each
team seemed to fizzle in the stretch.
Callahan's third game was a 147.
The junior varsity team stretched
its undefeated record to 12-0 with a
4-0 sweep over St. Mary's of Lancaster. Chris Wargula led the team
with a 511 set, and frosh Justin
Fridman, in his first appearance,
rolled games of 179 and 183.

four, went to the front and cut
initial fractions of :29 2/5 and 1:00
4/5. Courageous Quest, who had a
pocket trip through the half, went
outside at the 5/8 pole and cleared,
but Stick A Dynamite fought back
in the stretch to win by 1 -1/4 lengths
in 1:59 3/5.
The win was driver Rothfuss's
third of the night and Stick A
Dynamite's fifth of the year. The 4year-old Slapstick horse is owned
and trained by Chris McClory of
Franklinville.

Local athletes in college
A number of local college students
are participating in intercollegiate
athletics for their respective schools.
The following is an update on how
some of those athletes are doing. If

Kathy Brinkworth, a graduate
of Frontier High School, was named
to the East Division second team
all-conference volleyball team ofthe
Mid Continent Conference. The
University at Buffalo fresh ma n from
Hamburg was the leading blocker
for the conference.
freshman, is a decathlete and participated in the Empire State Games
this past year in Syracuse.
Tony Privitera, of Eden, was a
member of the Alfred University
football team and has been named
to the ECAC Upstate New York allstar team.
Privitera, a junior, was dominating on defense, making 64 tackles,
including an amazing 19 tackles for
losses. He also led the team in sacks
with 6.5, forced a fumble, recovered
two fumbles and had eight pass
breakups. He also blocked a kick
and intercepted a pass.
Rachel Decker, of Hamburg, is
playing her senior season with the
Canisius College women's basketball team and is closing in on 1,000
points for her career. The center is
second in scoring on the team this
year, averaging 14.8 points per
game. Canisius is off to its best
start in school history with a 5-0
mark.
Chris Haberer, a graduate of
Lake Shore High School, is a member of the Allegheny College (Pa.)
