1. About Flood Situation:
The Karnali River at Chisapnai, Saryu at Chepang and Rapti at Kusum Nepal flowing
below danger level in Nepal at evening
15 August 2014. The approximately
4000
families
evacuated
from
Dallipurawa,
Thekedarpurawa,
Manjharipurawa,
Thakurpurawa,
Maikupurawa, Manjhara, Jiyanpurawa
villages due to steady of Ghaghra River
in Mihipurawa Block of district Bahriach
and they are staying in Asam Road,
nearest of flood post Jalim Nagar.
Water Logging in Mihinpurwa
The risk is continue and critical in 202
village of Nanpara Tehsil like 79 in Mihipurawa 35 village block shivpur, 88 village
Block Mahasi and 14 deaths in district Bahraich, 40 village in Nawabganj and 38
village in Tarabganj in district Gonda. The flood water raising in Mahsi block and
Gonda. A large number also took shelter on roof of their houses in above mentioned
blocks.
Overall Damage details:
 176 villages fully affected five tehsil of Lakhimpur Khiri and 7 deaths.
 117 villages of Bhinga, Ikauna Tehsil of Shravasti district and 2 deaths.
 107 villages of Mahmudabad Tehsil of district Sitapur and 4 deaths.
 78 villages of Balrampur and Utraula Tehsil of district Balrampur and 1 death.
 78 villages of Sirauli, Ram Sanehi Ghati and Ram Nagar Tahsil of Barabanki
district.
 10 village of each in Faizabad and Azamgarh.

 A total 6 Lakh hectares has been inundated over 600 houses washed away in
48 hours.
2. PGVS Interventions in partnership with Christian Aid
2.1 Community Kitchen 17 August 2014:

operating community kitchen and cooking "Taharee". Villagers, PRI members and
local service providers were providing support. They were helping in each process i.e.
Cooking food, arrangement of utensils, support in distribution & informed to
community about community kitchen. The Organization providing fuel, raw
material (rice, Vegitable, cooking oil, gas stove, potato etc.)
Organization is providing support to 3000 persons yesterday who sheltered at
embankment & also those families on ASAM Road.
Our volunteer giving food packet through boat that, they are not in the embankment
in Block Mahsi. In this work, team was getting local support, identification of
vulnerable people, distribution of food & guidance of route also.

Orientation of GTF on use of Aqua Tab and
monitoring process: Dr. Bhanu, Project Director
oriented to 20 Gram Task forces on Need

Needs
 Community Kitchen for at least 3000
persons
 Rescue of villagers from the affected areas
 Settlement of community in the safer
place
 Safe drinking Water, 20 Liters Bucket with
Lid for safe water storage, Detergent and
bath soap for cleaning cloth and bathing,
Sanitary Pad for ensuring female individual
Sanitation and Toilet for ensuring
sanitation
 Tarpaulins for temporary Shelter
 Cooking Food package at least one week
and Fodder for cattle at least one week
 Medicines for resolving health related issues

Following needs are identified by PGVS as priority areas for intervention and
developed strategy:
 Camp site with WASH and Cooked food package for 5000 families at least in
Mihipurawa (2500 Families), Shivpur (100 Families) and Mahsi (1500 Families)
Block district Bahriach.
 Food Aid – Ready to eat food for 1000 persons for above mentioned blocks
which is not served by anyone while moving.

 Community Kitchen for 3000 persons to provide immediate food assistance to
evacuated people.
 Water and Sanitation- Most of the drinking water source has contaminated
due to over flow of flood water, and in the relief camps there is sheer
shortage of safe drinking water. The relief camps are very crowded and they
don’t have sufficient number of sanitation facilities, to ensure public hygiene
temporary toilets would be required
Distribution of Aqua Tab Demonstration: The Aqua Tab supported to total of 3200
families in Block Mihipurawa Block and 1000 families of block Mahsi and Shivpur. The
Gram Task force distributed 1 strips each families after the demonstration safe use of
Aqua taps. The GTF Members developed follow up and monitoring plan for Aqua Tap
use. Each Task force members taken responsibility to follow up and monitoring to 35
families.

Visit of Community Representative: Visited

Mr. Kamal Kishor Kamando: Mr. Kamal
Kishore Kamando visited in Camp site of
Girgitti, Mihipurawa Block and told said to
community that he demanded Helicopter to
administration for ensuring accessibility of
food packets in surrounded areas wherein
peoples took shelter on roof of their houses
and he appreciated to GTF and PGVS for the camp site arrangement of Mihipurawa
and checked the quality of Taharee. Mr. Commando appreciated to Mr. Peshkar
Yadav representative of Gram Pradhan representative, Mr. Lekhpal Sita Ram for their
valuable support in campsite management and community Kitchen.
Visit CMO Mr. S.P. Yadav, Bahraich: Mr.
Yadav visited Gigitti flood affected areas
and arrived on ASAM Road and he
discussed to flood affected community on
health issues. The community peoples told
to CMO that they suffering from fever and
skin diseases. he promised to community
that he will be arrange the health camp on
18 August 2014 at 10 AM to 10 PM
evening on ASAM road, near Jalim Nagar

Mr. Pandit Singh, Minister State Govt. Uttar Pradesh visited to Girgitti and other
flood affected areas of Mihipurawa Block and discussed with community about their
situation and appreciated to community Kitchen.
Meeting with PGVS team with SDM Nanpara Mr. Ramesh Chandra Shukla, Moh.
Jaseem, Nayeb Tahsildar and Mr. B. Gupta Tahsildar for sharing of response
activities in Tehsil Nanapara. Dr. Bhanu Project Director shared with them the
process and advantage of community kitchen and use of aqua tab for water
purification by flood affected community and other regular CBEWS related

activities. The Tahesil team given over all responsibility of Girgitti Gram Panchayat
villages in Mihipurawa Block like Mallanpurawa, Maikupura, Thekedarpurawa,
Dallipurawa and Thakurpurawa for quick food support through community
Kitchen, Camp site management and health camp support.
Administration Support:

The administration provided lunch packet for 2000 families in Mihipurawa
Majhara, Jalim Nagar Gram Panchat Block Mihipurawa.

3200 Lunch packet and Taharee supported by Gram Pradhan Pachdevari
Smt. Madhu Devi after approval of SDM Nanpara Mr. Ramesh Chandra
Shukla. total flood affected 500 families in this Gram Panchayat.

500 Lunch Packet provided by Gram Panchayat Bansgari for flood affected
community of same gram Panchayat. total flood affected 300 families in
this Gram Panchayat.

State Govt. has released Rs. 51 Crore relief fund, including aid from
centre, for flash flood hit districts

The two Army Choppers, NDRF, PAC Personnel, 679 boats trying to reach
the affected
