Emergency Skills Courses
Humber College offers a variety of First Aid, CPR & ASIST courses in collaboration with the
Canadian Red Cross and the Heart, Stroke Foundation of Ontario and LivingWorks
Education. The First Aid & CPR courses are designed to teach lifesaving skills such as first aid,
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED). The
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) prepares students to be ready, willing
and ability to provide suicide first aid with a person-at-risk. Courses are offered for a variety
of audiences (students, health care providers, first responders and the general public).
It is strongly recommended that all students visit the Emergency Skills website at
http://healthsciences.humber.ca/resources/pre-placement-requirements/standard-firstaid-cpr.html

5. Which organizations does Humber College collaborate with to provide
First Aid, CPR & ASIST training?
Humber College works collaboratively with Canadian Red Cross and Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Ontario to provide First Aid & CPR training. For the ASIST workshop, all
trainers are trained through LivingWorks Education.
6. What is the difference between the Emergency Skills courses?
The Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR courses (HLT. 106 & HLT. 107) cover both
First Aid and CPR material.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario CPR for HCP course (HLT. 203) teach strictly
CPR skills for Health Care Providers and do not cover First Aid material.
7. How much do the Emergency Skills courses cost?
Course costs change annually. For the current rates for Emergency Services courses, please
visit - http://healthsciences.humber.ca/resources/pre-placement-requirements/standard-firstaid-cpr.html.
8. How do I find out the details of the course I have registered for?
Students can see the courses they are successfully registered in by logging into their SRS
account (srs.humber.ca) and retrieve the Admit-To-Class form. To retrieve your Admit-toClass form, please visit srs.humber.ca, and you will be prompted to login with your Humber
user name and password.
An Admit-to-Class is a confirmation of the registration for the course in which you are
enrolled. On your Admit-to-Class form, specific information such as the course number,
course name, start and end dates, the last day to withdraw for a partial refund, as well as the
location of your class will be detailed. Your Admit-to-Class form will also display your
personal Humber (student) number, Humber user name, and will act as your part-time
student card to access the library and athletic facilities.

9. What should I bring with me to class?
Students taking a renewal course are required to bring evidence of their previous
certification and the training manual/book received in initial training.
10. What renewal course should I take?
This depends on your previous certification. It is strongly recommended that students refer
to their previous certificate and read the course descriptions for the renewal courses
thoroughly.

11. What happens if I am late for the course?
Due to the nature of emergency skills courses and the policies set by Humber College, the
Canadian Red Cross and the Heart and Stroke Foundation, students must be present for
100% of the course work. Students arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be allowed to
participate nor will a transfer to another class be granted. No refund will be issued. Please
plan to arrive 30 minutes early for the classroom session in order to sign in.
12. Can I get a refund for an Emergency Skills course?
To request a refund, please contact the Customer Service and Registration Centre. Our
office must receive your request by the date indicated on your Admit-To-Class form.
Last revised: 2014/09/11

Full refunds will be granted only when Humber cancels a course. See the cancelled course
policy. Some courses have special refund policies.
Refunds may take seven to ten days for processing from the date the refund request is
received. Where payment was made by cash or cheque, refund cheques will be issued and
mailed. Where payment was made by Visa or MasterCard, a credit will be made to the credit
card that was used.
13. What if I enrolled in the wrong course but did not find out until I
arrived?
Students should go directly to the Humber College Customer Service and Registration
Centre. However, it is the student's responsibility to ensure they are enrolled in the correct
course and that they meet all the requirements of the specific course.
14. Can I transfer to another Emergency Skills course?
In most cases, students are permitted one transfer from one class or course to another in
the same academic semester, prior to the start of class. Transfers can be made by phone at
416.675.5005 or in person. Exceptions to the transfer policy will not be made for students
who register late. Second and subsequent transfers will incur an administrative charge.
There are exceptions to this policy. Please refer to your Admit-to-Class form.
Note: Certain courses are excluded from this general policy. Please refer to your Admit-toClass form.
15. What if an Emergency Skills course is cancelled?
We regret we must cancel courses for which enrolment is insufficient. When your course is
cancelled, you may either transfer to another course or request a refund. Refunds are not
issued for cancelled courses automatically, as many students prefer to transfer. Please let us
know how you would like us to proceed by contacting us.
If we do not hear from you, we will process a full refund of fees one month after the start of
the course.
