Globetrotters to ploy at
Meadowlands Arena
The Harlem Globetrotters, who
made ballhandling their trademark
and comedy their calling card, will
make a special visit to the
Meadowlands Arena. The
Globetrotters will face off against
the Washington Generals on Feb.
16 at 8 p.m., and Feb. 18, at 2 p.m.
(Washington's Birthday celebration).
The Trotters have presented
their unique form of comedy
basketball to more than 100 million
people in 101 countries since the
teafi was founded in 1927. •
The team's legendary ballhandling skills evolved over a period of
years, starting in the early days
when the Trotters barnstormed
across the country taking on all
comers.
At that time the Trotters played
"Serious" basketball with little, if
any, comedy.
When they would take a lead
over their opposition, the Trotters
would dazzle the crowd with ball
handling tricks and other feats of
basketball legerdemain. The
Globetrotters realized that the far
enjoyed the tricks more than
regular basketball.
The team continued to recruit
the finest basketball players in the
country, and year in and year out
proved themselves to be among the
elite of the nation's basketball
teams. But comedy became more
and more a part of every
Globetrotter game.
Today's Trotter roster includes

wrestling rivalry between these
neighbors and the Ridgers found
themselves completely overmatched, losing to the Bengals,
some of the nation's finest college
ballplayers, providing fans around
the world with a spectacular display of high-flying slam dunks and
razzle-dazzle basketball wizardry.
Leading the Trotter squad is
Hubert "Geese" Ausbie, the unquestioned "Clown Prince of
Basketball." He is joined by a
stellar lineup that includes former
Houston AU-American "Sweet

the semi-final round of the tournament and went on to clinch the
championship.
Bruce Lackey, brought a full complement of well-prepared wrestlers
into the match and Ridger fans had
to settle for a match in which their
major highlights were a superior
decision by Pat Napoli and a Rick
Moskowitz pin.
After a forfeit at 100 pounds, a
valiant Steve Lackey was pinned
late in the third period by Bengal
captain Mark Vicari. Napoli scored
his major decision at 114, followed
by a loss by Chuck Templeton at
128. At 140, Bill Templeton got out
to an early lead, but suffered leg
cramps and was barely able to
hang on to win by one point. At 147,
Moskowitz started cautiously, but
after seeing his opening, he was
quick to move in for a pin.
At 157, despite a low score, the
match had a lot of continuous action as Dave Hurley lost to Tony

forfeit, followed by a pin of Lackey
by Bees' co-captain Monico
Nadera. Napoli scored another in
his string of major decisions at 114,
and Chuck Templeton scored a superior decision at 128 to bring the
Ridgers within nine points at 18-9,
which was as close as it would get.

next two weight classes, the Bees
opened their lead to 30-9 before
Moskowitz pinned his opponent at
147 to reinitiate the Ridger scoring.
The Ridger match scoring was
short-lived, however, as Hurley
