Area-W ide S inging - Waynesboro Church of Christ

Yesterday I watched as a meteorologist gave a dire weather forecast. She
talked about how this storm system could bring over a foot of snow and frigid temperatures which in turn could prove deadly if people didn’t take proper
precautions and prepare for the storm. I ignored her warnings. The problem wasn’t that I didn’t believe her but that it just wasn’t relevant. The forecast was for the Northeastern parts of the country. As Christians we face a
similar dilemma in talking to others about the bible and the good news it
contains.
Not everyone you talk to concerning the bible will believe that it is relevant
as a guide for their life. If this is the case then your attempts to tell them
what the bible says or even quoting scripture itself is merely a hollow gesture. In their mind it is the same as listening to a weather forecast for a different part of the country.
So what can we do to help others see that God’s word as revealed to us in
the bible is relevant to them? As Christians we must make sure that others
see what we see in the bible and for them to do this they must see us living
the bible. While others see the bible as an ancient document that cannot
possibly have any relevance in our modern society we know that the bible is
“living and active” and able to address any problems or ills our society has
to offer.
We must let others know the source for our hope. We must let others see
us living the bible day after day. We must not shy away from telling others
that we refer to the bible to help guide us through everyday life. If we want
people to believe we must first be relevant. What are some ways you can
think of to let people see the relevance of God’s word?
