NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
MORWELL LANTERN PARADE ON FRIDAY 17TH OCTOBER
AT 6PM TO 9:30PM
As part of the Morwell Fire recovery process all Primary
Schools in Morwell were invited to participate in the Soroptimist International Lantern Parade. The Lantern Parade took place on Friday 17th October 2014 at Kernot
Lake from 6pm to 9:30pm. It was wonderful to see students and their families brave the cold and support the
school and walk around the lake with their lanterns.
Thank you to all families and staff who participated on
the night.
HVP PLANTATION
On Friday the 17th October at assembly Danny Bullen
come to present the school with a cheque for
$13,391.00. This money was for the logging and selling
of a tree plantation that the school purchased back in
1988. We are very appreciative of this money and are
making a wish list on how we should spend it. We hope
to use some of the money to develop more vegetable
boxes and build an interactive garden outside the library.
These are projects that we have been working on during
electives.
PARENT CLUB MEETING
Our next parent club meeting will be at 2:15pm on
Thursday 23rd October in the Parent Room.
LATE ARRIVALS
Over the last two weeks there have been a large number of students who are arriving late to school. Last
week alone 90 students arrived late to school. The
first 10 or 15 minutes of each school day is very important, as it is when teachers talk about the timetable for the day and go through learning expectations
and hub activities. When students arrive late they
miss this initial ‘tuning in’ time and consequently they
are playing catch up all day. Please work with us to
ensure your child/ren have the best possible start to
each school day by ensuring they arrive to school on
time.
GIPPSLAND REGIONAL ATHLETICS
A big congratulations to Anna Solomon who went to
Joe Carmody Athletic track on Thursday 16th October
to compete in the Regional Athletics. Anna ran 2nd in
her heat of the 80m Hurdles which got her through to
the final where she ran 3rd. Great job Anna.

MUSIC COUNT US IN
FREE EYE TESTING
All the students in the school are currently taking part in the
program ‘Music Count Us In’. This is supported by the Australian Government and has run since 2007. It is all about
celebrating the value of music education in each student’s
development and involves learning, rehearsing and then performing the same song, on the same day, at the same time as
600,000 students around Australia. This year’s song is called
‘Paint You a Song’. You can listen to it on You Tube or google
‘Music Count Us In’ and the site will have links.
After an official countdown, we will be singing the song on
Thursday, October 30 at 12:30pm in the Multi-Purpose
Room. We will also have a group of students- guitarists, recorder players and singers, perform it for the school. We
would love to see you there if you are able to make it.
Thrifty Regional Eyewear is offering free eye tests for
Commercial Road Primary School students.
Dr Themistoklis Alevropoulos is happy to come to
school and give students a basic preliminary eye test. If
further testing is needed then you will be advised and
will need to go to the Midvalley store for further
testing. If you are interested in receiving this service,
please contact Janice or Annemieke at school.
