Sacred Heart College- Their two teams met in the final of the 2014 State High Schools Tournament in Adelaide
Variety-the spice of life
If you aspire to the elite level of our sport or
just like watching it then you will appreciate the
efforts of our Open Squad preparing for the
Asia Oceania Championship in Hong Kong in
August in their quest to qualify for the World
Championships in 2015. The Squad has it
tough, as usual, since they have to provide all
their own expenses, so they value our support
which can come in a variety of ways. At
another level we have the State High School
Tournament in Adelaide where many students
experienced korfball for the first time. To the
adults who were there it was an exhilarating
experience to see the reaction of the students.
Connecting these activities are the korfball
clubs. In this edition we commence a series of
club features starting with the North Adelaide
Korfball Club. This club, like many others,
provides for a wide range of activities that
interest individuals and families at all ages and
ability levels. Elite players, youth and clubs
now all come together as we prepare for the
National Club Championships next month.

Our preparation for the Asia Oceania
Championship in Hong Kong is stepping up
another gear. Besides the weekly training we
have big weekend sessions on June 21-22 and
July 5-6 when Team Selection will be made
followed by final team training on August 2-3
before our departure.
We are also busy fund raising to help support
us for our trip since we have no sponsorship
for our travel and other expenses unlike most
of the other countries.
We would like your support as we organize the
BBQ, coffee and cakes at the National’s and

IKF ASIA OCEANIA
KORFBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP
10 teams have confirmed their
participation in this event (IKF AOKC): Australia,
New Zealand, China, Macau, Korea, Japan,
Malaysia, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei and Hong
Kong.
The competition in Hong Kong starts 17 August
2014. The finals are 23 August 2014.
Chinese Taipei is the reigning IKF AOKC
champion.
Here is something worth thinking about and
joining in. It could be youth just getting together
and having a game between “Korfs” and” Balls”
and recording it as part of a world game on that
weekend. See details below
2ND WORLDWIDE KORFBALL YOUTH EVENT
In the weekend of 14 – 15 June 2014 the IKF
Development and Education Committee wants to
celebrate another edition of the worldwide korfball
youth event. As a follow up of the successful
International Korfball Youth Day
Celebration held 15 June 2013 and following the
great result of the Worldwide
Korfball Match created by IKF Europe
Development officer, Mr. Bandor Nagy, we
organise the 2nd edition.
If players and teams are ready to play a match
between team Korfs and team Balls, please join the
Facebook event
at https://www.facebook.com/events/63517641655
7674/ in order to follow the information regarding
the worldwide match.
Our intention is to tally the results of all the Korfs
teams and the Balls teams aggregated, so it will be
a country-wide korfball match between the two
teams. We will have an interactive map where the
visitors can see the results at each location, and by
age group, including all the names of the players
who played korfball in that location during the
weekend of the 14-15 June. Next to the map, the
big score board will show the progressive overall
standings. At the end of the weekend we will have
the final result between Korfs and Balls and we will
also post pictures, videos and reports from many
locations.
We are looking for editors to get youth matters
in the spotlight. It can be a single person or a
small group. You will get support in the editing
process.

Coaches and Referees in
training for KA Level 1
Level1 is a professional standard so there is a
need to be able to verify that you have
achieved the criteria required in the course
(see Check Sheets) from appropriately
qualified people. So, when you are doing
activities towards either, keep a record (e.g.
date, what you did) and get this verified.
Further, statements from a coach/referee
mentoring your progress also assists in
verifying your overall achievements. Any
queries do not hesitate to contact Roy at
[email protected]
We warmly welcome Bart von Roekel from
The Netherlands for a 2 month stay. Bart has
really hit it off with the korfball community with
his great korfball spirit, cheerfulness and
willingness to get involved in everything from
coaching to refereeing and of course playing.
Bart is from the DVO club where Adam and
Patrick played last year. Here he has joined
The Blacks club to play in the State League.
He has been surprised with the speed of play
at the top level and, at least with the girls, he
thinks this might be a result of their netball
experience!

I would like to thank all the people who helped
organise the Korfball SA quiz night that was
held on the 10th May. It was a very successful
and enjoyable night with around 250 people in
attendance. This is an important fund raising
event with all proceeds going to SA clubs.
Congratulations to all the winners and I look
forward to seeing even more people at next
year’s event.

Social Korfball – it’s a great way to
start playing korfball whatever your
age. It is at present in recess but we would
like to start again soon in the east/south
Adelaide area. If you are interested contact
Deb Adams or any member of Boomers Club
who are organising the next season.
Korfball SA High School
Tournament.
On Friday 16th May, 11 teams from 6 schools
competed in the annual tournament at Netball
SA Stadium. Many of the games were very
closely contested, others not so much, but we
had 124 teenagers playing korfball and they
appeared to be really enjoying themselves.
Sacred Heart College, Tatachilla Lutheran
College, Craigmore High, St John’s Grammar
and Blackwood High all entered 2 teams and
Reynella East College had 1 team. All teams
displayed great sportsmanship and a
willingness to learn more about this sport.
Congratulations to Sacred Heart College Year
11 team for taking out the championship this
year. Thanks to Mark Hamilton, Lee Jones,
Bart van Roekel, Roy Kirkby, Bruce
Hutchesson and Chris Hutchesson for your
help with running the tournament and to all the
teachers, parents and coaches who helped the
students.

And special thanks to Karina for her hard
work in organising and directing the

As for 2014, it has started well with some fun at

Included on the player list of that inaugural
season were Daniel Papalia, Chris Webb,
Daniel Crispe, Jess Crispe, Kimmy Langley,
Debbie Crispe and Heather McManus who
have all proudly suited up in the red and white
in the current 2014 winter season.
In those first seven years NAKC has stocked
up the trophy cabinet, picking up 3 B grade
premierships, 4 U19 premierships and a B
grade National clubs championship in 2008. It
may only be a short history but it has certainly
seen some rewards with 2012 the only year to
date without any silverware.
before then taking on the 2014 KSA State
League winter season.
Our B Grade SA State League Champions in 2013
A great feature of our club is that we are very
much a family club with many parents playing –
usually B ands C grades with the younger ones
featuring in the A grade when they have
developed their skills! At every game we can
always rely on a great range of supporters.
The NAKC future looks bright with the super
experienced Jeremy Harris running a great
program for the talented and youthful players.
A good number of our North Adelaide players
have represented Australia overseas in the
U23 and also in the Open team.
North Adelaide training sessions are held on
Wednesday evenings, 7pm at Parkside
Primary School.
With a great start to the season, we are looking
forward to the remainder of 2014 and the many
years ahead, of course!
We have an active committee to keep the club
running smoothly with key positions help by
Secretary Megan Milde; Vice-President Daniel
Papalia and Treasurer Debbie Crispe.
Social memberships of $25 are available. For
