Aerospace Defence Energy Aerial targets Banshee Jet Key features • Suitable for use on land and at sea • Suitable for use against surface-to-air and air-to-air weapon systems • Target performance and enhancement easily varied by plug-in modules Developed from the successful Banshee target, which continues as the workhorse of choice to meet the world’s air defence training requirements, this new, jet engine version has been developed to fulfil two emerging requirements. The first is the requirement for an affordable and reliable target that is faster than the propeller driven Banshee. The second is the provision of a realistic, complete 360° IR signature. Jet Banshee fulfils both of these requirements as it has a top speed in excess of 135 metres/second when fitted with the patented Hot Nose which provides a forward and side looking IR source with output in bands I, II and III. A realistic IR signature to the rear of the target is provided by the rear mounted jet engine which produces 45Kg of static thrust. All other, well proven augmentation devices traditionally available to Banshee can be fitted to this jet engine derivative. As an option, Jet Banshee can be fitted with a slightly more powerful engine of 50kg static thrust. This engine is equipped with an integral starter and generator with an output of approximately 1kW at a nominal 28 volts. When equipped with this engine, Jet Banshee may also be fitted with the Meggitt Fire 40, electric hot nose as an alternative to the more usual gas powered hot nose. Alternatively this electrical power may be available for use by a customer-supplied payload.
