President’s Report
It was an exciting day for the club with 2 teams playing for grand final births. We also had 3 games
playing at Schramms as well, so the club had it's hands full. It shows great diversity, with our
members either helping with duties at our clubrooms, or out cheering the teams on, or even
better, playing a final.
First up was the Under 10's. The game was a fairly even affair with both sides getting the ball into
their forward line, but as is always the way with the younger teams, goals are always hard to come
by. The atmosphere was fantastic, with plenty of support from families and friends. The kids
played a great game, with some great running through the middle, some great marks, and
desperation at the ball. Craig and his team showed leadership when it counted, keeping the boys
focused and staying in touch with a very good Richmond side.
Unfortunately as the game wore on, the opposition slowly crept ahead on the scoreboard. Our
team kept fighting until the end, and scored in the last, but went down by 20 points. Nothing
anyone says can make a finals loss any better, but they did play some good football. It was an
exciting game, with both teams showing some pretty good skills. I hope the families of the players
are all proud of the teams efforts, as a representative of the committee, I cannot tell you how
proud I was of the way the game was played, and how the kids conducted themselves. Hopefully
they have a taste of finals football now, and will be bigger and better next year.
Second up was the Under 11 team led by Glenn. This was another close affair, with only a goal in it
up to half time. We seemed to have more of the ball throughout the game, but could not get the
ball through the middle. This was highlighted by the 11 points we kicked. It only took a small last
quarter burst to get this team into a Grand Final. Within 10 minutes of the last quarter, we had
shots at goal from every angle, and started to get them through the middle. It was sensational to
watch, with many parents losing their voices from the sidelines. With goals in the last quarter
getting us ahead, the teams defence kicked in to stop Macleod scoring. The boundary line was
found on many occasions, along with fierce tackling and some great marks.
Winning the game by 14 points was not the best part of the day. It was the way the boys and girls
played the game. Big marks, strong tackles, long kicks were all used to get the ball into our
forward line. It was a highly skilled game of football, with the team running in packs to move the
ball, or get it from the opposition. The type of game that gets you into a GRAND FINAL. This team
can go all the way next week, the football they played, the way Glenn coached the team, it all
leads to another exciting Sunday coming up. Well done.

This great representation for the club. This amount of players getting nominations shows we have
some good football players in our teams, and are taking it up to the bigger clubs around us. Along
with 2nd in Colts, Zane managed to get the prime position of Full Forward in the Colts Team Of
The Year. This is a huge effort for a player, and a great honour for anyone nominated. Please
check our facebook page for all the photos from the night.
Please make sure you come along to watch our teams play this week in their well deserved Grand
Finals. Under 11's are at 10:15 at Templestowe Reserve, and the Colts are at 11:30 just down the

COACH’S COMMENTS:
Doncaster 4.6.30 defeated by Richmond 7.8.50
What a great year our boys have had in 2014, finishing off with another fantastic performance this
week in the Preliminary Final.
Although the scoreboard may not reflect the result we were after, the team can take away great
confidence and pride, having given it their very best and making us all very proud.
In preparing for this game, the team trained twice during the week with great precision and
enthusiasm and you could sense to fierce determination in their faces to give it their best shot.
They did not let us down come Sunday at all, playing against Richmond who had only lost one
game for year (home & away) and went in as strong favourites. Before the game we spoke about
our 2014 team goals and game plan as well as the importance of applying this to the very best of
their ability for 4 quarters.
Right from the 1st bounce our Donny boys took it right up to Richmond. It didn’t take long for the
opposition to realise that they had a fight on their hands with the Donny boys firing early.
In the 2nd quarter, our momentum continued early, however we were unable put it between the
tall posts. Richmond then managed to bang on 3 quick goals to take a handy lead at the long
break. At this point our boys were still playing very well, but just couldn’t convert some majors at
critical times.
After half time, our boys showed fantastic character and matched Richmond goal for goal for the
remainder of the game, with some great effort, teamwork and attitude (ETA), but just came up a
bit short. If not for the 3 goals burst by Richmond in the 2nd quarter and a bit of luck at times, the
scoreboard the ledger could have swung our way at the final bell….It wasn’t to be and that’s OK!
Once again, the boys should be very proud of their 2014 year, culminating in playing a great finals
series. In terms of the boys’ long term development, I’m sure the experience of playing in both a
winning final and a losing final in their 1st year of competitive footy will install both great
confidence and resilience in them as they progress through their footy years.
I would like to thank my brilliant Team Managers Agatha & Karen who have done a great job all
year in basically coordinating everything outside Coaching! The team could not have reached the
heights it did without your efforts!

Thanks also to my Assistant Coach, Tony D, Runner, Peter P and the many other U10 Dads for
providing great support to me at training and match days all year and probably making me look
good at times through their own efforts. Great job guys!
A big thanks also goes out to all the U10 families for riding the fantastic U10 journey through 2014
and providing superb commitment to the many tasks required each week.
Finally, I would like to thank every U10’s player for their efforts in 2014...You were fantastic and
an absolute pleasure to Coach!!

COACH’S COMMENTS
Doncaster 4.11.35 defeated Macleod 3.3.21
After overcoming Warrandyte in the semi final, we travelled to Victoria Road Reserve in Hawthorn
to take on Macleod in the Preliminary final. A win would take us through to the Grand Final
against Kew.
Our captain was Louis & VC was David.
The ground was very small and knowing that Macleod were good ball users we would need to be
accountable defensively as well as really good with our skills.
Q1. The first quarter was an arm wrestle with the small ground meaning the footy was played in
tight and went pack to pack. The ball went quickly end to end and our backs were holding well.
Azayha and Robbie were inspirational with their tackles and chase of the opposition to create
turnovers. We went back to kicking to the crowd that were trying to avoid.
Macleod managed to score with a man coming off the bench and was unmarked while managed a
couple of behinds.
M: 1.2.8
D: 0.2.2
Q2. Macleod had a tall player that was all over the ground and dominating. We had to move the
ball away from him and put more pressure on their ball carriers as well as getting in front. We got
incredible efforts from Jesse and our smaller players Tom W, Tyler and Tom O'C. We created
some really good scoring opportunities and momentum. We looked to be trying to kick the ball
too hard and sprayed them around.
Our back six players in Chris, Jayden, Jye, Louis, Ashton & Matthew were so good and shut
Macleod out as well as creating plenty of run. We switched Jackson into the ruck late and he
really dominated banging into their ruck and allowing Jack to get some good clearances crashing
through. Skye also showed her marking skills by clunking another ripper and helping to drive us
forward.

M: 1.2.8
D: 0.4.4
Q3. We had to get back to basics after half time. We asked the team to win all the races and
attack the footy hard. Our tackling lifted and we were winning the ball all over the ground. David
and Jesse were well on top in the middle and we were getting the ball forward for more scoring
chances. We just couldn't get it straight. Tom W was cracking in hard and booted long out of the
pack to set up a chance for Jack, but we were unlucky with the finish. Finn finally got us on the
board and our confidence was lifting. Macleod managed a goal as well but it was looking like it
was going to go right down to the wire.
M: 2.3.15
D: 1.9.15
Q4. To take the game were going to have to be desperate and get in first for the footy. We knew
that it would be the biggest heart that would take it.
The last quarter was very similar to the first. Back & forth up and down the ground. We got lots of
effort at the ball especially from Peter on the fwd flank, our back again were really tough and we
got plenty of 2nd & 3rd efforts. We put Jackson forward and Finn into the ruck. About half way
through the quarter we managed a couple points, then Macleod got a goal to take a four point
lead. Goals were really hard to come by today and the kids dropped their heads a bit. When the
ball came back to the middle, we were awarded a free kick and quickly got the ball forward where
Jesse finished the play with a great goal. Once we were back in front the kids all lifted. We went
forward again and Jesse banged through another goal. There was no giving up in this team and we
went forward again with Finn banging through another goal.
The team was attacking with so much endeavour and spirit that they wouldn't let Macleod win the
ball for the rest of the game.
Another fabulous team effort carried this group over the line and into the unknown of the Grand
Final.
