Asia Pacific WSPortal News January 2014
A message from the AP-WSP Network coordinator
Dear colleagues,
My name is Alexander von Hildebrand and it is a as real pleasure to be appointed as the new Coordinator of the Asia Pacific WSP Network,.
I am an engineer specialized in development studies and have worked in promoting environmental health in various countries in Latin America, Africa and
South East Asia for the last 25 years. I am 59 years old, married with five children.
I am now engaged by WHO's Regional Office for the Western Pacific and responsible for coordinating the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Phase
3 of the WHO-AusAid WSP Partnership, in close collaboration with our national counterparts especially in Cambodia, Cook Islands, the Lao People's
Democratic Republic s, Mongolia, the Philippines, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and Viet Nam. I would like to wish you and
your families and friends my very best wishes for 2014, may it be a year that brings with it joy, peace and health!
This presents opportunities to further strengthen our individual and joint efforts in promoting the widespread implementation of drinking water safety plans in
the Asia Pacific Region. The Asia Pacific WSP Network has contributed significantly to establishing consistent and equitable
supplies of safe drinking water, thereby reducing the burden of water-related diseases, benefiting millions of people in the Region.
Efforts to disseminate information, resources and knowledge sharing and support for capacity-building have paid off. We are ready to build on
this success in 2014.
Our Network participants meeting in June will be an opportunity for a wide participation at the one-and-a-half day Scientific Symposium
where country case studies, best practices and other WSP achievements will be presented.
I am honoured to be in a position to help achieve these goals and count on all your support in this endeavour to implement WSPs as the
most effective sanitary intervention to protect and promote human health.
Thank you!
Alexander von Hildebrand
Coordinator of Asia Pacific WSP Network

Maynilad Water Academy and IWA, under the umbrella of the AP WSP Network, was carried
