MEET THE STAFF JOY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Faith Adams – Faith is a wife and mother of 5. Her husband, James, owns and operates Heritage Investment
Services from their home. She and James have lived in Wise County since 1995. They have been
homeschooling since 2002. They currently live outside of Boyd, where they are pursuing their dream of a hobby
farm. She has a bachelor’s degree in education from Baylor University and 9 years of classroom experience.
Faith is an avid reader, math puzzler (some might even say math geek), and explorer of the outdoors. Faith has
been waiting for the right time to become a part of the J.O.Y. community and is excited that God has opened the
right doors for 2012-2013. She is looking forward to new experiences and adventures!
Cindy Brazzel – Cindy is the wife of Glenn and mother of 2 homeschooled graduates. Her passion for
education, specifically worldview, was realized during her 14 years of home education and she developed a love
for the World Views of the Western World curriculum. It is her commitment to prepare young people to
"always be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you"
and to be able to stand firm in a post- Christian society. She has also taught a variety of other homeschool
courses including Amateur Radio & Engineering Exploration, Biology, Chemistry and Algebra.
Glenn Brazzel – I am known throughout the Home School community as “Cindy’s husband or Mr. B”. Yes,
I am married to the infamous Cindy Brazzel and home schooled both our boys which are how I got involved
with today’s Home Schooled youth, well here we go! For the many years, I have served as the Squadron
Aerospace Officer with the USAF Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol) teaching Cadets (ages 12 – 18) all aspects of
aviation, space, and the theory of aerodynamics. Hosted the Roman’s Rangers home school science club
exploring concepts of basic physics up through robotics and electronics for age group 12 – 16 years. Taught
Amateur Radio Licensing classes for home schooled families with emphasis on Missionary Communications
and Emergency Services. Did I mention Select Baseball while doing all this? What are my qualifications
besides being Super Dad? I work in the world of Extreme Robotics at the American Airlines Flight Academy
in Flight Simulation. One cool Career!
Karla Coin – Karla has been married to Jason for 20 years & they have 2 sons. She homeschooled their oldest
son for a year in 2004 then went back to public school till November 2013 when they felt it was time to return
to homeschooling. They joined the JOY family in 2013. She has a paralegal degree & is also our Teacher
Coordinator. She sings in a Southern Gospel group, The Arden’s, with her two sisters & they have been to
Nashville to produce 3 projects. She also loves singing with her husband & son. Her heart’s desire is to share
God’s love & minister as he leads her.
Marsha Farmer – Marsha is a mother of 4 and grandmother of 10. She attended East Texas State University,
University of Texas at Arlington & Texas A&M where she studied Bacteriology. She has worked as a Med
Tech and been a Medical Sales Rep. Currently she is self-employed/semi-retired. Marsha has helped in the
homeschooling of her grandchildren over the last several years.
Kelly Hall -- Kelly has been married to Jeff Hall for 24 years and they have one son that also attends JOY. She
has been a home school mom for 5 years. She has been working as the JOY Bookkeeper for 6 years. JOY has
been a tremendous blessing for our family.
Ronnie Holcombe -- Ronnie is wife to Mike (a pharmacist), and has been married for 40 years and has three
adult children. She obtained her Master Degree in Education from North Texas University and has taught
mainly in Irving since 1965. During the later years she served as a Mentor for teachers in the IISD. She now
lives outside of Sunset and established a mentoring program for Montague County Special Services, and also
served as a consultant for Bowie ISD.
Dan Mallory – Dr. Daniel C. Mallory is a board certified orthodontist providing care for both children and
adults. Dr. Mallory and his wife, Allison, have three children: Claire, Carter, and Catherine. He and his wife are
actively involved with ministry through Crossroads Church and support several ministries that serve the local
community. Dr. Mallory hopes to serve families in this community in such a way that God is honored and
receives glory.
Becki Miller – Becki is the wife of Mitchell and a homeschooling mom of three. Her homeschooling journey
began in 2002 and she is currently facilitating the college studies of her older two students and beginning
elementary with her youngest. While home educating her older children she coached speech and debate. Her
back-story includes a childhood in Oklahoma, a home full of learning and music including much community
theatre, and a position with the Fort Worth opera chorus. She is still drawn to music and the arts and through
homeschooling has acquired a love of history. She is currently earning her Bachelor's degree from TESC. In her
spare time she can be found studying, reading, blogging, researching, singing and attending Bible studies. She
has a passion for helping students prepare for college studies.
Peggy Morris – Peggy is the wife of Martin of 32 years, mother to Kory and Andrea, mother-in-law to Jason
and Mammy to Aria and Aniyah. She has been a substitute teacher in the Bridgeport schools for 17 years,
working with pre-k-5th grades. Peggy also taught a pre-school class in her home for two years. She has worked
in children’s ministry for 17 years both in her church and home. She is the servant ministry leader for the
homeless at her church and has served the homeless for the past six years. Peggy designs and sews clothing for
little girls through her company “The King’s Daughters” and she is the author of her first book, “Ponderings Of
a Mother’s Heart”.
Jonee Paul -- Jonee is married to Al and has been teaching art privately in the North Texas area for 20 years.
They have two children and eight grandchildren. She studied Early Childhood Education at Oklahoma State
University and afterwards managed a nursery in Lawton/Ft. Sill, OK. She began her formal art studies when her
children went to school, starting with private teachers in a variety of media and an occasional college course.
Jonee was offered a job with Creative Arts Studio in Bedford... teaching art to pre-schoolers and taught there for
6 years. In 1993 the Paul’s opened a branch of Creative Arts Studio in Aubrey where she has been teaching
public school and home school children in her studio and on location ever since.
Rene Pyron -- Rene is the wife of Joel and mother of 2 children. She completed her Masters of Music Degree
in 1986 at The University of Oklahoma. While earning her Bachelors degree at Oklahoma Baptist University,
she taught music. The Pyrons have been teaching private voice and piano both at home and through the public
schools since 1989. The Pyrons have been homeschooling since the fall of 2001. It is their desire to equip
children with excellence for God's service while also helping others do the same.
Joe Rodrigs -- Joe was raised in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School. Later, he graduated from
North Texas University and married his wife, Lamaye. In addition, Joe graduated from the Bible Training
Center for Pastors at Denton Bible Church. He has been self-employed on a family farm for more than 20 years
and more recently he began a trucking business. He is a homeschool dad of eight children. Overall, he loves to
“play in the dirt” the most through farming.
Lamaye Rodrigs -- has homeschooled for a looooooooooong time and she has a looooooooong time
remaining! She has been blessed by this wonderful opportunity for about 21 years now. She is the wife of Joe
Rodrigs who has endured her hormones now for 26 years and by the grace of God is still passionate for her. In
addition, she is the mom of 8 great kids, one son-in-law and recently became a grandparent to “Little JoJo” and
Trinity (Yes, to separate births in one year for our daughter-wow!). She graduated from Midwestern State
University with a major in Elementary Education. Her newest and favorite hobby is holding her new
granddaughters. Parenting is fun, but being a grandparent is the BEST!
Marilyn Tasker –Marilyn is wife to Rusty and he has been God’s gift to her for 23 years. They have 8
children and have homeschooled 7 of them. A crowning achievement is writing transcripts that the government
accepted. Their son is in the Guard to this day, and about to be deployed. The Taskers have fostered 43 children
and adopted 5 children in the past 10 years. Marilyn is equipped by God’s grace to do it all! As a
homeschooling veteran, JOY has been an answer to prayer and Marilyn is extremely joy filled to assist in the
journey.
Shelly Tefertiller –Shelly is the devoted wife to her high school sweetheart. They have been married for 16
years and each one just gets better! Shelly and Aaron have 4 amazing children whom she homeschools. Shelly
has a passion for fitness and nutrition. She received a personal training certification from Cooper Clinic in
Dallas and she continues to study the latest research on both subjects. Most of all, Shelly loves Jesus,
And her passion and goal is to walk daily “in step with the Spirit.” (Gal. 5:25)
Sally Vaughn – Sally is a mother of four (ranging from 17-5) and has been homeschooling for the past four
years. She graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a bachelor’s degree in English and in Mass
Communications, as well as a master’s in English. She also served as the editor-in-chief for the TWU
newspaper for two years. She has had some experience teaching desktop publishing and annual staff at the high
school level. She also taught grammar and composition and did tutoring in the Write Site for a year at TWU.
She works as a consultant and editor for various book projects and part-time as a bookkeeper for her parent’s oil
and gas business. She is excited about all the adventures awaiting her in the upcoming year.
Traci Wann – was raised in Belton, Texas. She and her husband have been Decatur residents since they were
married in 2001. They have three children. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Mary
Hardin Baylor and a Master’s in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Besides
taking care of her family, she works alongside her husband, Chris, reaching out to teenagers in Wise County.
She has become a surrogate mom to nearly 80 teenagers who attend their church. While she enjoys cooking, her
talents are often spent feeding youth who drop in her home all hours of the day to hang out or get help with an
English paper.
Cathy Wells – Cathy has been married for 16 years and has four children. She has homeschooled from the
beginning. With a BA in English and a keen interest in educational history, Cathy is constantly studying and
learning more about education, particularly classical education. Cathy has been a tutor in a classical
homeschool academy for 2 years, tutoring English grammar and writing as well as all seventh grade subject
matter. She is a frequent speaker on educational history and classical education and is currently working toward
her MA in English in a Great Books honors program. Her passion is to help parents understand and implement
classical principles and methods through the use of excellent materials and skilled mentoring.
