How to Create an IED Template
Product
SCADA
Question
In the past I had to manually create the IED database points in STC Explorer as I did not have a template.
My company is now installing several more IED devices and I need to replicate the settings however I
still do not have an available template. What can I do?
Answer
You have several options:
 You can create a template using the STC documentation IED-100 IED Wizard Users Guide and
IED-103 Template Maker Users Guide
 You can use “Reverse Engineering” to turn a database into a template (Explained below)
Procedure
The following procedure describes how to turn a database into a template using reverse engineering. If
you have a very customized database you can extract the station database from Scada and turn it into a
template for the IED wizard so it can be reused as needed.
1. Go to Program Files(x86)>quindar>ScadaServer>SdeDump.exe (as shown below).

2. Run SdeDump.exe as the Administrator.
Result: The following window displays.
3. Select the Station and the Dump File Type IEDSDE.
4. Click on Start Dump.
Result: The Browser For Folder window pops up (normally the file is put into the Templates
folder in the Scada Clients directory).
5. Go to the appropriate folder and click OK.
Result: The dump file can now be used by the IED Wizard to create a template.
