Ax Template Converter User Manual 2.0
Ax Template Converter lets you convert your PSD templates in Album Xpress supported format and use it. This lets
you use your existing creations in Album Xpress without any extra efforts. Convert tons of your PSD templates with
just defining layer types.
Windows Installation
1) Download the Ax Template Converter utility from www.dgflick.com and double click on this downloaded utility

Click on ‘Yes’ on the User Account Control window, if you are sure you want to proceed with the installation; clicking
on ‘No’ will abort the process.

Select the installation path on your computer. The
utility should be installed in the location folder of the
Photoshop software.
5) Browse from the ‘Browse’ button and give the path of
the location folder of Photoshop. (Select and right click
on the Photoshop icon to know the location.)
Click on ‘Next’ after making your choice. The utility will
be installed in the Photoshop.

General features
Ax Template Converter comes with several features, which are discussed in this section:
 Free utility: Ax Template Converter is a free utility available on DgFlick's website www.dgflick.com. The utility can be
downloaded from website and easily installed in few steps.
 Multiple background layers: Define multiple layers as background and get them merged automatically to avoid
cluttering of too many objects.
 Retains Image Quality: New version provides you better results in terms of quality of the background. This ensures
quality album designing.
 Discard unwanted layers: Unwanted layers if not already turned off, can be discarded while conversion of templates.
Preferences
Before you convert the templates, you can set the parameters for the converted templates. The templates you
convert using Ax Template Converter can be assigned with a volume name, theme of the template and saving path.
This lets you easy finding at the time of finding the template in Album Xpress.
 Open the Photoshop.
 Go to File – Script and select DgFlick Ax Template Converter – Preferences option.

 A ‘Preferences: DgFlick Album Xpress Template Converter’ window will appear.

 You get three options in ‘Preferences’ window.

 Output Path: Define the converted templates saving
path from the ‘Browse’ button. The default path is ‘My
Documents’. To Change the path, click on the ‘Browse’
button. Once you click on the ‘Browse’ button, you will
be alerted that you are trying to change the path of
the output.
 Click on OK and change the output saving path from
the browser. Select the desired folder and click on OK.
As here Indian wedding templates are getting
converted, the folder named Indian Wedding 001 is
selected.
 Once you define the saving path, you will be asked for
the confirmation. Confirm path by clicking on OK.
 In ‘Preferences’ window, you will see the output saving path is changed.
 In this window, you can also define theme of the template. The templates which are going to be converted are based
on north Indian wedding style; the theme is specified as North India. In the same way you can define theme of the
template.
 While you sort templates in Album Xpress, you can see
the defined theme option there under ‘Theme’ option.
All the templates you generate will be categorized
under the theme defined by you.
 Define Volume of the template from ‘Volume’ option. A folder with the volume name will be created in the saving
path. You will be able to sort the templates according to the volume in the Album Xpress.
 Once you define all the preferences, save the settings with ‘Close’ button.
 Your preferences will be saved.
Convert PSD templates to Ax templates
 Open Photoshop software.
 Select ‘File’ menu.
 Select ‘Open’ option.
 Browse and open the PSD file of the template which you want to convert into Ax template.

 Before starting actual conversion, the layers of the PSD files need to be studied to get the idea of layer types and their
usefulness.
 Unwanted layers can be turned off either in Photoshop or they also can be discarded later.
 Go to the ‘File’ menu again and choose ‘Script’ option. Choose ‘DgFlick Ax Template Converter’ option.

 A window will appear on your screen. Template will get converted layer wise and you will be asked for each layer to
denote it with conversion type.
 You can see the preview of the layer behind window. You can also see the current layer here in layer panel.

 You can see various parameters for various types of layers are given to guide you while you assign them.
 Define the different numbers for different types of objects.

Number 0 is to discard unwanted layer.
Number 1 is for photo layer with no masking effects. If a photo is placed without any masking effect, then it is
treated as photo layer.
Number 11 is for photo carrying clipping or layered mask. Whenever a photo is applied with clipping or layered
mask, the mask is defined by number 11.

Number 2 is for clipart layer. The cliparts appearing on the templates are converted under this category.
Number 3 is for frame layer. Save used frames with number 3.
Number 4 is for background layer. All the layers used as background will be defined by number 4.
 Let’s start converting the template.
 The very first layer of the used template file is background layer so it is defined with number 4.
Converting background layer
 In the same way all the background layers are defined by number 4.
 Any type of mask layer whether clipping mask layer or layered mask layer, both are treated as photo with mask layer
and defined by number 11.

 Clipping mask related photo layer will become unwanted layer and will be discarded with number 0 i.e. discard
option.

Discarding photo layer
 In the same way all the clipping mask layers are defined by number 11 and all the Clipping mask related photo layers
are discarded with number 0.
 All the clipart layers are defined by number 2.
Converting clipart layer
 Similarly convert remaining clipart layers with number 2.
 Layered mask layer is a photo with mask layer and hence it is defined with number 11.
Converting Layered mask layer
 Effects applied on the photo in Photoshop won’t get converted or saved but you will be able to add same effects in
Album Xpress with given inbuilt templates.
 Photo without any effect is defined with number 1.

Converting photo layer
 In the same way you can convert remaining photo layers with number 1.
 Once you define all the layers, PSD template gets converted into Ax template.
 Now follow few more steps to bring the converted template into Album Xpress.
 Right click on the Album Xpress shortcut icon and open the file location.
Open file location of Album Xpress
 Open products folder and then DgAlbum folder. Now open Theme folder.

 Also open the location folder of converted templates.

 Copy all the folders from converted template folder.

 Paste copied folders in the Album Xpress folder.

 The confirmation will be asked to merge the folders here. Computer will ask for confirmation to merge the folders.
Check this checkbox to merge all the folders and press ‘Yes’. Folders will get merged.

 Open Album Xpress software and go to ‘Design Album’ window.

 From template tab filter the templates theme wise and view the templates you just converted.

 Insert the template.

 Also insert the photos from photo tab.

 You can give effects to the photo from ‘Effects’ tab.

 Select the photo. Go to effects tab and select ‘Glow’ option. Give Glow effect to photo.

 The effect you apply can be customized from ‘Custom’ option.

 In this way the PSD template file can be converted and used in Album Xpress.
