Director of a multidisciplinary hospital with a bed capacity of over two
hundred and fifty (250): e.g. Kingston Public Hospital, University Hospital
of the West Indies and Cornwall Regional Hospital.
Qualification and Experience
• Diploma in Physiotherapy or Bachelor of Science in Physical
Therapy from an accredited training institution.
• Has completed a Diploma in Administrative Management or
Diploma in Supervisory Management or Diploma in Public
Administration or Health Administration or Health Sector
Management Development Program or Health Management or its
equivalent.
• A minimum of 8 years experience.
• Knowledge of Industrial Relations.
Job summary
• Administer and supervise the physiotherapy programmes within the
facility.
• Monitor the administrative duties within the department.
• Supervise staff, students and interns.
• Treat patients as required.

Required Skills/Specialized Techniques
• Experience in Human Resource Management.
• Conflict Resolution.
• Industrial Relations.
Special Requirements
• Current licensure to practice in Jamaica.
• Persons who have been out of the hospital clinical setting for three (3)
or more years must satisfy specific re-entry requirements as advised
by the Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine.
• Must be in possession of a reliable motor vehicle.
• Must be willing to travel extensively.
Duties Performed
• Administer and supervise the physiotherapy programme.
• Supervise all categories of staff and workers.
• Implement and monitor clinical programme for physiotherapy interns
and students.
• Order relevant equipment and medical sundries.
• Monitor the maintenance and repair of equipment and physical plant.
• Prepare Annual budget for the Department.
• Prepare Quarterly and Annual reports.
• Prepare and develop Strategic Plans and Operational plans.
• Coordinate and participate in In-Service education programmes.
Level V1
Departmental Director
• Provide advice and guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and
Senior Medical Officer on all technical matters relating to
Physiotherapy.
• Implement and monitor Quality Assurance procedures.
• Conducts performance evaluation reports on staff physiotherapy and
clerical staff.
• Ensures a healthy industrial relations environment.
• Treat patients as required.
• Consult with Medical Staff and/or Senor Physiotherapy Staff when
necessary.
• Participate in In-Service Education or other continuing education
programmes organized by the department or by the hospital.
• Attend and participate in inter and intra departmental meetings.
• Organize and implement annual inventory.
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
