BE THE LIGHT
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you all for an amazing Family Fete! The scene was set for a great day
with such detailed planning and hard work. The Fete was well attended and
most stalls traded really well. It was a terrific effort by the Fete Committee
over many, many months to prepare for the fete. They worked tirelessly to
ensure everything was organised, booked, delivered, set up, coordinated etc.
I would like to thank our Fete Committee members:
Tash BarrengerVal Ciuffetelli
Rachael CorbyJamie Johnson
Odette ChanKaren Snowball
Gerard HeffernanChristine Lawson
Lisa BrussowKelli Cartledge
Belinda Rose Katherine Austin
Mel BensonJanine Morton
Karen CroweKate Blenkin
Thank you also to our amazing SCA staff who were involved in everything!
Staff were seen assisting Tash and Val and the committee with countless
tasks in and out of school time, setting up, working on various stalls,
assisting students and visitors and packing up... among many things. And
what would we do without Jeff Alcock! Thank you to our wonderful OSHC
staff who also generously volunteered to help at the fete.
Dates to
Remember
Friday 28th November 2014
• Class Mass 1 Red & 1 Yellow
• 4 Blue & 4 Yellow Assembly
Monday 1st December 2014
• MacKillop Orientation Day
Tuesday 2nd December 2014
• Thinkfest
Thank you to those parents, friends and community members who
volunteered to help on stalls. Without your help we would not have been
able to have as many stalls as we did. Whilst the final amount on the day
is still to be finalised, it is anticipated the profit will be similar to previous
years. However, more important is the fact that we held a great family event
for our families and local community. Thank you to the whole community
for supporting the SCA Fete again!
2015 SCA COMMUNITY COUNCIL
I would like to welcome new parent representatives Mr Ryan Breen, Mrs Anne Lahey,
and Mrs Rachael Corby who will join the Community Council in 2015. Thank you
for making this significant contribution to our school community.

SOCIAL JUSTICE CREW
This year we continued to raise funds and awareness for those less fortunate than ourselves
with particular attention given to the Kings Angels school in Kenya. Through the Global School
Partners Organisation, we are now able to see exactly what our fundraising is achieving.
So far, we have purchased the following items for all of the students at Kings Angels:
School uniforms
Exercise books
Text books
Some shelving for their books
Some sports equipment
We still have some funding in the account so will be working with Simon Carroll from Global
School Partners and David Ogembo to determine the best way to use this money to improve the
education of these children.
The children, staff and families at Kings Angels are very appreciative for all of our efforts in
supporting them and in valuing the importance of their education.

Here are some more expectations for students. This week I am focusing on the shape sub strand.
I’m sure that as parents it would interest you to know what the benchmarks are at each grade level.
I am also confident that knowing these expectations may help you to help your child/ren if they
need it. Remember maths online is a great resource to help you with this.
So in the Shape sub strand:
Kinder
• Sort, describe and name familiar two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects in the
environment
Year 1
• Recognise and classify familiar two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects using
obvious features
Year 2
• Describe and draw two-dimensional shapes, with and without digital technologies
• Describe the features of three-dimensional objects
Year 3
• Make models of three-dimensional objects and describe key features
Year 4
• Compare the areas of regular and irregular shapes by informal means
• Compare and describe two dimensional shapes that result from combining and splitting
common shapes, with and without the use of digital technologies
Year 5
• Connect three-dimensional objects with their nets and other two-dimensional representations
Year 6
• Construct simple prisms and pyramids
