Red Cross Blended Learning Programs
ARC has released Blended Learning materials for Lifeguarding, Lifeguard
Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
The new web-based blended learning courses from the Red Cross build the
same knowledge and skills as traditional in-person training. Participants will
register directly with Red Cross for online course components and participate in
classroom and pool training at Aqua Culture Training Center. Online registration
directly with Red Cross enables you to be registered in the National Database as
well as access online course materials. Participants will receive a link to register
for the online course component after registration and tuition payment with
Aqua Culture Training Center. The online format appeals to busy and techsavvy teens and adults who complete interactive lessons and activities at their
convenience, Instructor led sessions reinforce learning and emphasize skill
building. Final written exam and in-water skills testing are completed at the Aqua
Culture Training Center facility.

Note: Blended learning courses require online registration with Red
Cross prior to start of course so advance registration is required. The LGI
and WSI courses include an online pre-course component that must be
completed prior to the first day of the course.
Announcing Red Cross Digital Certificates
The Red Cross Digital Certificate is a first of its kind, online certificate that
gives customers, instructors and course participants anytime, anywhere
access to Red Cross certificates. After the course record is submitted,
successful students are emailed a link to their Red Cross Digital Certificate.
Blended learning students will be able to download their certificates from the
Red Cross Learning Center. You can print out 8½" x 11" or wallet-size cards
on regular business card cardstock. The digital certificate is available for
download at anytime during the period of certification. Employers can verify
authenticity of certificates simply by scanning the unique QR code on each
certificate.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding
American Red Cross CPR/AED
This is a Blended Learning Lifeguarding program trains lifeguards to act with
speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the
water. Topics include water rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, first
aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED and more. This
program reflects the latest ECC science and findings from the 2011 United
States Lifeguard Standards Coalition Report. The certification validity period
is 2 years. Sufficient time is scheduled into the course to allow for
various learning styles, class pace and inclement weather that may affect
the course time line.
Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive
an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health
Care Providers o r C P R / A E D c e r t i f i c a t i o n valid for 2 years from
the completion of the course. This is the full course, designed for first
time students or returning students desiring a thorough review of learned
material.

Prerequisites:
• Participant must be at least 15 years old on or before the scheduled
test day of the course. A copy of age verification; passport, drivers
license, or birth certificate must be sent in with your registration.
• Swim 300 yards continuously with front crawl and breaststroke
demonstrating proficient form, breath control and rhythmic breathing,
goggles are allowed during this prerequisite only.
• Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs with hands crossed over
chest.
• Complete a timed event within 1:40, starting in the water,
swim 20 yards, surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of
7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound diving brick. Surface and swim
20 yards on back with both hands holding the diving brick. Remove the
brick from the water and exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review
This is a Blended Learning Lifeguarding review program. Participants must
provide documentation of current Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid
certification.

CPR/AED Pro Second Friday of every month from 4 pm - 10 pm
American Red Cross
Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate. This certificate
is nationally recognized and valid for two years from the date of the
last class. Reauthorization can be obtained by teaching, submitting
a record of your classes and completion of the online recertification
assessment within your authorization period.

• Participant must be 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled class.
A copy of age verification; passport, drivers license, or birth certificate must
be sent in with your registration.

• Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Sidestroke, Breaststroke, and Elementary
Backstroke - 25 yards each.
Aqua Tech Pool & Spa
Operator Course
This is a blended learning course. The Aqua Tech
online course will teach you how pool systems
work and how to maintain them, as well as how
to diagnose, prevent, and solve common
pool care problems. You will also find
information on reducing risk and increasing
safety at your facility. Upon successful
completion of both the online and instructor led
practical sessions and the class exam the participants will receive an Aqua
Tech certificate honored by Harford County. Shortly after successful
completion of the course, Harford County Health Department will also
send each participant a State of Maryland certificate. If you will be
operating a pool in another county, you will have to go to that county and
request a license to operate in that county. The certification validity period
is 3 years.
Total Cost $250
Cost for Online Portion - $170 (includes online course access and textbook)
Cost for Practical Portion - $80 (includes all course fees & materials)
Prerequisite:
• Butterfly - 15 yards
• Participant must be 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled class.
A copy of age verification, passport, drivers license, or birth certificate must be
sent in with your registration.
• Maintain position, while floating or sculling, on back in deep water for
1 minute.
Aqua Tech Pool & Spa Operator Review
• Tread water for 1 minute.
Strokes will not be performed continuously. Proficiency must be consistent
with Stroke Performance Level 4 of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim
Program - see on-line materials for Level 4 requirements.
Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive an
Aqua Tech Pool Operator certificate honored by Harford County. Shortly
after County Health Department will also send each participant a State of
Maryland certificate. The certification validity period is 3 years. If you will be
operating a pool in another county, you will have to go to that county and
request a license to operate in that county. Books may be purchased at the
office for $58.

• Participant must be 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled class.

• Participant must have been a certified pool operator in the state of Maryland
in the past and can provide proof of previous certification.
American Red Cross
Lifeguard Instructor Training
Registration must be made prior to the start of the course to allow
time to register instructor candidate with Red Cross and for the candidate to complete the on-line precourse materials.
Become certified to teach the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water
Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers,
Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens. Upon
successful completion of this course students will receive an American Red
Cross Lifeguard Instructor certificate. Participants who successfully complete
an instructor course receive a certificate. This certificate is nationally recognized
and valid for two years from the date of the last class. Reauthorization can be
obtained by teaching, submitting a course of record within your authorization
period and completion of the online recertification assessment.
Precourse screening is rigorous and you need to have mastery of the base
level lifeguarding course and be prepared to demonstrate such upon arrival
for the precourse screening on the first day of the course. Participants are
encouraged to complete a full or review course.

Prerequisites:
• Participant must be at least 17 years old
• Possess one of the following:
– Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED r.12
– Current American Red Cross for Lifeguarding/First Aid and an
American Red Cross CPR/AED for Lifeguards or CPR/AED for the
Professional Rescuer.
• Successfully complete and bring verification of completion for the Online
Session for the Lifeguarding Instructor course, which consists of the
following
prerequisites (participants should expect to take
approximately 3 hours to complete the online session): - Participants
will receive on line precourse access information once they have
registered and their information has been submitted to Red Cross and
Approved.
– Orientation to the American Red Cross
– Orientation to the Lifeguarding Instructor Course
– Lifeguarding Instructor Precourse Exam
• Successfully complete the precourse session on site with instructor trainer
which includes a collection of Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR/AED skills.
• Download the Lifeguarding Instructor Manual and Lifeguarding Manual
prior to entering the first on site session of the instructor course and bring
to class or bring your pre-purchased Lifeguarding Manual ($35.00 at Aqua
Culture).
