Y STABAL, GWYNNED, WALES
This traditional cowshed was renovated to provide sustainable holiday accommodation within a special area
of conservation in Snowdonia National Park, Wales. The renovation project was one of the first Solar Slate
installations to be completed in the UK and generates approximately 60% of the electricity needs within the
property. The scheme will also receive regular quarterly payments for 25 years under the government’s “Feed in
Tariff” incentive.
The property is highly visible from a busy road into the Snowdonia National Park and the materials used were
therefore under close scrutiny. The 2.21 kWp installation incorporates Solar Slates that were deemed a close
match to the Welsh Slates originally used on the roof, resulting in minimal impact on the view of Snowdonia.

Georgian Mansion, Conservation Area, The Cotswolds
Solar Slates have been installed to provide clean green electricity for this stunning Georgian mansion with a
Solar Slate system that is almost imperceptible on the front elevation of the property.
Set within grounds and gardens listed as historically significant by English Heritage, the property is undergoing
extensive refurbishment and improvement. The works will increase the size and quality of the accommodation
but using only the most sympathetic of materials. In addition to the solar photovoltaics, a biomass boiler has
been installed to further reduce the carbon footprint of the property.
An important and prominent building within a picturesque conservation area, the property has been granted full
planning and conservation approval for the 360 Solar Slates now fitted into its south facing Welsh Slate roof.

MASLAN FARM, CONSERVATION AREA, WILTSHIRE
Maslan Farm is a substantial Grade II listed farm house in the centre of the historic county of Wiltshire.
As part of an extensive and high specification renovation of the property, the owners were keen to reduce
the carbon footprint of the residence while also conserving the historic integrity of the building. Solar Slates
enabled them to install solar photovoltaics on this listed farmhouse whereas a conventional solar panel would
not have been permitted. Full planning and Listed Building consent was given to install the 140 Solar Slates
into the south facing roof slope as part of its replacement. These provide 1,013 kWatt hours per annum –
typically around 25% of the electricity for the average home, and will continue generating every year for over
25 years.

RIVERSIDE PROPERTY, BATH
This riverside property on the outskirts of Bath was built to an exceptionally high specification using only the
best quality local and natural products.
It is on the outskirts of the UNESCO World Heritage Site; the City of Bath. Visible from a picturesque riverbank
and canal, it is prominent for both local and visiting boaters. It was therefore of utmost importance that the
property blended with the local vernacular.
Recently completed, this new property used Welsh natural slate to blend the Solar Slates into the roofscape.
The project achieves its target for renewable energy generation with a 1.17 kWp system installed, to generate
clean green electricity primarily for use within the property. In addition to solar energy, the property owners
have decided to install several other energy saving devices within the home.
So far, the many visitors to the property have not been able to spot the Solar Slates. The owner is so happy with
their appearance and generation, he is looking to use them in the next stage of the build; the stable renovation.
