SELLATAN® FL liq. – Retanning agent with very good fastness to light
Features
SELLATAN® FL liq. is a condensation product of aromatic oxysulphones
and sulphonic acids.
Charge: Anionic.
Lightfastness: Very good.
Yellowing: Leathers and finished products are stable to storage.
Stability to electrolytes: Moderate.
Astringency:
Medium - strong, thus tighter grain.
Effect on leather colour: Shade weakening.
Levelling effect: Good dyeability.
Electrolyte content:
Very low, thus low effluent pollution.
Handling & storage:
Wear goggles and gloves during handling and close containers tightly
afterwards.
Can be stored for about 1 year (from date of production) if kept between
10°C and 35°C. If product becomes frozen, warm to approx. 20°C and stir
before use.
Benefits
SELLATAN® FL liq. is mainly used when lightfast leathers are required.
SELLATAN® FL liq. is noted for very high light fastness, high fastness to
ageing and good covering power. It is therefore very suitable to produce
pale-coloured and white leathers.
SELLATAN® FL liq. imparts a fine grain.
Grain firmness, handle, softness and the character of the leather can be
regulated by using SELLATAN® FL liq. in combination with other
retanning agents.
SELLATAN® FL liq. is very suitable as a levelling agent for pastel shades
as it is lightfast and overlays the leather surface with a slight anionic
charge. Since this reduces the affinity of the anionic dyes, surface
levelness of the dyeing is considerably improved.
Shrunk-grain leathers with a flat shrunk grain can be produced at low pH
with SELLATAN® FL liq..
Reptile skins tanned with SELLATAN® FL liq. are noted for good
black/white contrasts and excellent dyeability.

Application
In general, 4 - 8 % SELLATAN® FL liq. (calculated on the shaved weight)
is applied in the retanning stage. SELLATAN® FL liq. can be applied in
combination with other retanning agents.
