An overview of ankyloglossia/tongue-tie (including
posterior ties) and maxillary lip-tie as part of the
differential diagnosis in breastfeeding difficulties;

A thorough step-by-step assessment of lingual
(tongue) tie and maxillary (upper) lip-tie;

A thorough how-to, step-by-step treatment/release
with scissors of all types of tongue and upper lip-tie;

A complete guide to how to assist the physician/
practitioner with scissor release of tongue and upper

This talk is intended for health care practitioners, i.e. Physicians,
Dentists, Oral Surgeons, NDs, Dietitians, ENTs, Lactation
Consultants, SLPs, OTs, CSTs, Midwives, Doulas, etc. It is for
those who diagnose, surgically treat, and assist with frenotomy;
and practitioners who support families of babies experiencing
feeding challenges which may be due to a tongue or lip tie.

Edith Kernerman, IBCLC
President & Co-Founder of the International Breastfeeding Centre
President of the Ontario Lactation Consultants Association
Edith Kernerman is an International Board Certified Lactation
Consultant and clinician in Toronto, seeing over 2000
breastfeeding families each year. She is co-founder and
President of the International Breastfeeding Centre (IBC), cofounder and Clinic Director of the Newman Breastfeeding
Clinic, (NBC), senior faculty at IBC’s Centre for Breastfeeding
Studies, and an IBLCE. She is the creator and founder of the International meeting of
the Minds, co-creator of the L-Eat Latch and Transfer Tool; Dr. Jack Newman’s Visual
Guide to Breastfeeding; and author of the GamePlan for Protecting and Supporting
Breastfeeding in the First 24 hours and Beyond, and creator of the Pain Algorithm for
Sore Nipples and Breasts. Her recent focus has been 1] the not-yet latching baby, 2]
identifying and treating tongue and lip tie, and 3] Mammary Constriction Syndrome.
Edith has 3 wonderful breastfed children.
