Dear Families
We have now decided on teachers, classes, support staff, provisional development days, topics and themes for next
year and wanted to inform you as soon as possible. Classes for 2014-15 will be named after UK festivals (the teachers
have yet to choose but we will let you know as soon as we can!) This supports one of our term topics, “Festivals”,
where we will be studying not only the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival, but also a host of other music festivals
across the country, looking at the history, art and culture of these events and the impact they have on their local
surroundings. Our other two term topics will be “Parliament” and “Inspirational Women”.
Please Note: No classes are being changed or mixed up so your children can be assured they will remain with their
current class friends. There will be two classes in each year group.
From September 2014 teachers will be placed as follows:

Whole School Term topics:
Autumn Term
“Parliament”
2015 sees eight hundred years since the signing of the Magna Carta. We are going to explore the politics of England
and study how the country has changed since the year 1215, covering rulers, major events and uprisings. We will also
look at the upcoming election and how different things could be for the United Kingdom depending on the outcome.
Spring Term
“Inspirational Women”
In 2015 it will be one hundred years since the birth of the Women’s Institute (WI). We will look at how women’s lives
have changed dramatically over the years, studying influential and inspirational women in history including authors,
scientists, businesswomen, politicians and engineers.
Summer Term
“Festivals”
We have not explored a music-themed term topic before and what better than ‘Festivals’, as we have two major ones
each year on the Isle of Wight and many more throughout the UK. During this topic we will explore different types of
music, instruments, different festivals and hopefully end with a Lanesend Music Festival on the school field!
Provisional Development Days:
Please note that these dates may change – although we hope not!
