President's Message
Respected fellows,
A large number of our members visited the
Heavenly Palace at Doraha on 9th April and
enjoyed the Baisakhi celebrations with the
inhabitants, management, trust members and a
large number of elite people who were invited for
celebrations from various places including senior
citizens from Ludhiana. A Sarabdharm Samelan
was also organized at the occasion. I express my
gratitude to Mr. Monga, Chairman & other
members of trust for organizing such a beautiful programme for Senior
Citizens & others. Religious personalities from different religions
deliberated upon truthfulness and other virtues a human being must
possess for leading a noble & purposeful life.
Most of us enter this world with a healthy body, mind & some kind
of inborn talent. But how many of us use this talent fully and truthfully
for humanity.
In all religions truth holds a permanent place. Not everyone can be
truthful yet everyone wants the person he is dealing with to be truthful.
Truth is considered a supreme virtue. Even in Gurbani & Vedas there are
MA (STATISTICS), MA (ECONOMICS), PGDCA
MAY 2014
several references stressing on its significance. The Rig Veda states that
one should always speak truth & tread on the path of righteousness. In
Mahabharta Bhishma says truth is eternal duty. There are various forms
of truth which link it to impartiality, self control, forgiveness, goodness,
dignity, fortitude & compassion.
Truth is more than a moral commandant as it is considered next to
God. Truth can bring rich benefits to those who choose to be truthful.
Even Swami Viveka Nanda considered truth to be one of the three
virtues most important to achieve success. He said truth, purity &
unselfishness, wherever these are present, there is no power below or
above the Sun to crush the possessor thereof. Nothing can take the
place of truth. The mantra for success is truthfulness, persistence &
determination. These are invisible wings of success, which take one to
unpredictable heights. People with these qualities can happily &
proudly climb the ladders of success.
It is time again at this stage of life to remind ourselves to embrace
these virtues in life to become a successful & truthful person in service
of humanity. With regards.
Yours sincerely,
H S MAND
Baisakhi Celebrations at Heavenly Palace, Doraha
Glorious Years
Editorial
This month's issue will be focusing
on spreading the message of peace and
truthfulness. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first
guru, born to a Hindu family, showed a
deep spiritual nature from early
childhood. As he matured and became
absorbed in meditation, he questioned
rituals, idolatry and the rigidity of the
caste system. His closest companion, a
minstrel named Mardana, came from a
Muslim family. They traveled together
extensively for more than 25 years. Nanak sang hymns he
composed in devotion of one God. Mardana accompanied him
by playing the Rabab, a stringed instrument. They developed
and taught three fundamental principles: Naam japna,
remembering God through meditation, Kirat karo, earning an
honest living, Vand chhako, selflessly serving others, sharing
income and resources. President's message rightly reveals that
the mantra for success is truthfulness. Guru Nanak Dev Ji says
'Truth is High, Higher Still is Truthful Living' and we must make it
our principle of life.
International Workers' Day is a celebration of the
international labour movement that occurs on May Day. May 1,
is a traditional Spring holiday in Europe and is a national holiday
in more than 80 countries, and also celebrated unofficially in
many other countries.
Incidentally 13th May is Buddha Purnima i.e. Birth of Buddha
& the Four Noble Truths according to Buddha are:
1. The Noble Truth of Dukkha - stress, unsatisfactoriness,
suffering;
2. The Noble Truth of the causal arising of Dukkha, which is
grasping, clinging and wanting;
3. The Noble Truth of Nirvana, The ending of Dukkha.
Awakening, Enlightenment. "Mind like fire unbound";
4. The Noble Truth of the Path leading to Nirvana or
Awakening.
The story of “Baaz aur Kisan” is a good satire on our good old
habit of lethargy.
Election fever is at its peak and Media has more confused
the voters. Voters are wise enough; they will definitely not fall
prey to what the media wants to tell. Voters are enlightened and
know the truth. Ironically issues related to senior citizens find no
reference in manifestos of many parties. As already stressed in
last issue, we MUST vote and VOTE the RIGHT candidate
irrespective of the party. We MUST ensure that every VOTER
casts its vote on 30th April. Happy polling.

Advice and Suggestions for patients.
Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, LM No. 247
1.
Medicine is a science of uncertainty and an art of probability.

4. Doctor advises, it is for you to follow and obtain benefits.
5. There is no benefit without risk.
6. Every disease has its own morbidity and mortality.
7. No drug or medicine is safe, your body may react for which doctor

8. You are taking the medicines at your own risk.
9. Treatment given by doctors is not guaranteed. Do not ask for
guaranteed cure.
10. Even the best doctor in the world can not take care of you, if you
do not care for yourself.
11. Don't criticise a doctor to another one.
12. Don't mistrust your doctor.
