Welcome to Helsinki to the 2014 ISAF Youth Match Racing World Championship.

This guide contains practical information about planning your trip to Helsinki,
and how to get around while you are here.

The Organizing committee will do it’s best to make this a great event for all of

Insurance

We recommend you take care of all the necessary personal insurance before arriving in
Helsinki, as it most likely will be more difficult to organize here
Weather conditions
• The temperature in July is around 18-22°C, and the average sea water temperature is
about 17°C
• The prevailing winds are from SW, with average wind speeds of 10kn or less
• However, there may be significant changes in the weather during the week
Travelling to Helsinki
• By Air
• Helsinki Airport is well connected, and most major
airlines have flights to Helsinki
• the airport is located about 20km outside Helsinki

• By Ship
• there are daily car ferry connections from Stockholm,
Sweden and Talllinn, Estonia to Helsinki
• Shipping companies Viking Line, Tallink-Silja Line
serve Helsinki

Finnair City Bus and Airport Bus 615 (620 during
night time) operate to and from Helsinki City Center
(railway station).

Harbour in the center of Helsinki

Naval Academy, located on
Pikku Mustasaari, part of the
historic island fortress
Suomenlinna
• The fortress is classified as a
UNESCO World Heritage, and
is a popular tourist attraction
• A ferry service between the
Market Square and
Suomenlinna runs every 20
minutes during peak hours
• Transport directly to the
regatta harbour will be
provided each morning during
the event
Accommodation and travel in Helsinki
• Team accommodation is provided by the Naval Academy
• Earliest possible arrival: Sunday, July 20th
• Departure: Sunday, July 27th

• Travel within Helsinki
• All sailors will receive a Helsinki Travel Authority travel
card, providing free travel within the city of Helsinki
during the event
• The travel card is also valid on the ferry to Suomenlinna
(to the Naval Academy)

Accommodation (2)
• Team accommodation provided by the Naval Academy
• Rooms with 2 beds, some with 3 or 4 beds
• No smoking permitted indoors
• No alcohol permitted on the premises
• Breakfast served each morning at 7:00
• Event Shuttle service from the West pier directly to the
Regatta Harbour ever morning starting at 8:00
• Return transports to the Academy by public ferry (free
with the travel card)
• Fridge available, however no cooking facilities
