TEPID™: for improved startup and
transient response
Alstom T.MOD is based on PLC and TEPID™ algorithm in order to yield superior speed
transient response both upon unit startup and in response to system load transients
during grid, isolated or islanded operations.
TEPID™ is a Transient-Enhanced PID with setpoint feedforward based upon a
“double-derivative” strategy with conventional PID parameters expression.

in unit startup, stability test, on-line response
and load rejection.
Feedback form the Field: The Upper American River Project upgraded a hard-wired
relay-based governing system to T.MOD with TEPID™ (including hydraulic pilot
control valves, magnetic level indicator, pressure transmitter, solenoid-driven unloader
valves and new speed detection/speed switch). Improved generating efficiency,
standardisation of spare parts and troubleshooting, reduced maintenance and
leverage system resources and training were just some of the immediate benefits.
