MEDIA RELEASE Reaching out to MSM (Men who have sex with men) online. Alberta Community Council on HIV launches new resource website for MSM in Alberta. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 19th, 2014 Edmonton, AB — 4men.ca, a new information and outreach website, went live March 15th as part of a collaborative venture between the Alberta Community Council on HIV and its member organizations. The new website is dedicated to providing information and resources for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and other Men who have sex with Men (MSM) in Alberta. The project is supported by the Alberta Community HIV Fund, and ACCH hopes it will help promote the health of the MSM community, while providing readers with the knowledge they need to reduce the spread of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). 4men.ca addresses a broad range of topics via the FAQ section, a main focus of the website. The objective of the new platform is to increase understanding within the MSM community, on issues including HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Safer Drug Use, Healthy Sexuality and Mental Health. “Many MSM get their sexual health information from the internet, and it is not always accurate, up to date, or in plain language,” says Jessica Daniels, Executive Administrator of the ACCH. “The website provides community appropriate resources and information to help prevent the spread of HIV and other STIs, and incudes where to get tested, where to get free condoms, community events, and the ability to ask a sexual health worker questions anonymously. We use a harm reduction approach, and encourage people to be safer, in whatever way that is possible and appropriate to them.” ACCH will be hosting a media conference March 21st, at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel, to discuss the role of both 4men.ca and ACCH in reducing HIV transmission. For more information on 4men.ca, or about the conference, please contact Jessica Daniels at 780.200.ACCH. The Alberta Community Council on HIV is a non-profit, provincial network of AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs), as well as health promotion, community development, harm reduction, housing, and education organizations and programs. ### For more information on the Edmonton media event on March 21st, contact Jessica Daniels at 780-200-ACCH, or email [email protected] For information on 4men.ca in Edmonton contact Corey Wyness, Community Education Facilitator, HIV Edmonton at 780-488-5742 ext. 202, or via email at [email protected] For information on 4men.ca in Calgary, please contact Mark Randall, HEAT Program Coordinator, HIV Community Link at (403) 508-2500 ext. 129, or via email at [email protected] For information on 4men.ca in Red Deer contact Jennifer Vanderschaeghe, Executive Director Central Alberta AIDS Network Society, at Cell or Text : 403.340.9701 or via email at [email protected]
