A typical day you ask? Engineers, Contractors, homeowners and Epcor contacts will call on you to guide them through the electrical permit process. You’ll use your technical “know-how” to code rulings and create positive change in regulations by making electrical installations and systems safer. You’ll perform initial inspections on safe housing and secondary suite programs and grow ops. You’ll liaise with contractors to get the job done properly. Here’s some more of what you will be actioning in this role: Enforcing the Alberta Safety Codes Act, the Canadian Electrical Code Part 1, the Code for Electrical Installations at Oil and Gas Facilities, the Alberta Electrical Utility Code and the Electrical Permits Bylaw in the City of Edmonton Reviewing inspection reports, scheduling and assigning inspection requests, and issuing electrical permits Performance audits of contracted electrical inspection agency Inspections of installations during the course of construction, alteration or repair to determine conformity with approved plans and regulations Examining electrical plans, job specifications, technical documents and reports for compliance Investigating unsafe conditions and consulting with the persons responsible for necessary improvements Consulting with Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Building Owners and agencies Preparing reports, infraction letters, variances and orders Performing other duties as required To visualize what it is like to be on our team, visit The City of Edmonton Talent Hub Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12, supplemented with a Journeyman and Masters Electrician Certificates recognized by Government of Alberta Advanced Education and Technology A minimum of 5 years of Journeyman experience including 3 years in a supervisory capacity within electrical installations of commercial and residential buildings Certified as an Electrical Safety Codes Officer (Group A) in the Province of Alberta; Groups A and B would be an asset Possession of a valid Province of Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle License or operators licensing equivalent recognized by the Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta. Reg. 320/2002 Proficient in the use of computer and data entry using Microsoft Office Suite Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to converse with a wide variety of customers and internal resources Ability to interpret, negotiate, and successfully conclude issues around deficiencies, deviations, and violations Considerable knowledge of design methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment employed in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems and assemblies Knowledge of Alberta Safety Codes Act, the Canadian Electrical Code Part 1, the Code for Electrical Installations at Oil and Gas Facilities, the Alberta Electrical Utility Code and the Electrical Permits Bylaw in the City of Edmonton Ability to provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships A security clearance is a condition of employment.
