Novel α-MSH Peptide Analogs for Melanoma Targeting and Therapeutic Efficacy
This project is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Yubin Miao in the College of Pharmacy. I
am currently developing and characterizing novel radiolabeled α-MSH peptide analogs that target the
melanocortin-1 receptor overexpressed on human and murine melanoma cells to be used as targeted
radiation therapy radiopharmaceuticals against melanocytic lesions in a mouse model.

Novel α-MSH Peptide Analogs for Melanoma Targeting
This project is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Yubin Miao in the College of Pharmacy.
Due to the high mortality rate of melanoma it is imperative to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic
targeting molecules to aid in patient survival. I developed and characterized novel radiolabeled α-MSH
peptide analogs that target the melanocortin-1 receptor overexpressed on human and murine melanoma
cells to be used as imaging probes for non-invasive SPECT imaging of melanocytic lesions in a mouse
model. I successfully defended my dissertation project on March 17, 2014 and graduated as a Ph.D. (with
distinction) in Biomedical Sciences.
Undergraduate Student Research Assistant, May, 2008 – May, 2009
University of Redlands, Redlands, CA
This work was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Lisa E. Olson at the University of Redlands in
which I researched and successfully defended my honors thesis entitled “Enhanced Doxorubicin
Chemotherapy Efficacy in a Carbonyl Reductase 1 Knockout (Cbr1+/-) Mouse Model.”
Research Intern, May, 2008 – September, 2008
University of Redlands, Redlands, CA
This was a summer research internship for Dr. Lisa E. Olson in the at the University of Redlands in
which I cared for an entire mouse colony and learned techniques and skills necessary for researching both
the pharmacogenomic effect of Doxorubicin treatment on transgenic mice with metastatic breast cancer
possessing a null allele of the Cbr1 gene and determining the relationship between Down Syndrome and
tumor suppression in transgenic mice.
