About Us
The Latin American Geosciences Student Conference (LAGSC) is a
space for interaction between the future leaders of the earth sciences.
It is an opportunity for the students to network with the most advanced
research in the region and the world and also an occasion of
recruitment to companies in the industry, which will allow drift and
project development, knowledge and professional links. "

A six days event with technical sessions, lectures, poster sessions and
contests; short courses and a one day of field trip. "

We are hosting the Honorary Lectures, the SEG-AAPG Distinguished
Lectures, the Latin American Challenge Bowl and the EAGE GeoQuiz. "

LAGSC Medellin 2013
Medellin, Colombia hosted the first Latin American Geosciences Student Conference
(LAGSC) on ‘Emerging Region, New Trends’. The idea was born of having the event for the
first time in Latin America given the significant growth of student chapters in this region and
their active participation in geosciences as members of SEG, AAPG, and EAGE. The
conference attracted participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru,
USA, Venezuela, and Europe."

The event consisted of two days of short courses, a three-day technical session, with
conferences given by professionals and students, plus a one-day field trip. The topics were
focused on oil and gas E&P challenges and ore deposits as well as industry-led applied
research. The 6th Annual SEG Latin American Challenge Bowl also took place during the
event."

SEG, AAPG, EAGE, Society of Economic

Students Lectures.!
This program gives students the opportunity to display their research to a highly focused
audience from around the world. These presentations will test the knowledge of exhibitors
to the questions of the public. Current issues in the geosciences will be exposed to
arouse interest among the attendees."

Honorary Lectures.!
The Honorary Lecture Program, previously known as the Regional Lecture Program, is a
companion to the long-established SEG Distinguished Lecture Program. The SEG
Honorary Lecture Program began in 2006 and is aligned with six geographical regions of
the world. Because of Shell's investment in the SEG Foundation, these lectures are
recorded for online viewing."
AAPG Distinguished Lectures.!
Developed in 1941, the Distinguished Lecture Program continues to be AAPG’s oldest
and most prestigious program. Funded in part by the AAPG Foundation, the program
offers outstanding lectures by speakers who are respected scientific leaders in their
disciplines of petroleum geology. Anyone can attend the lectures, which are hosted by
AAPG affiliated geological societies or university departments."
Latin American SEG Challenge Bowl.!
The SEG Challenge Bowl is an
international contest testing students'
breadth and depth of knowledge about
the field of geoscience. The quiz-show
format features intense competition as
the contestants attempt to buzz in first
with the answers to challenging
geoscience questions. All geoscience
students are encouraged to participate
in this unique event which combines
knowledge, competition, and fun."

The EAGE Geo-Quiz is a thrilling competition, in which EAGE Student Chapter members
answer multiple choice questions. The best three EAGE Student Chapters of the online
tryouts win travel grants to finals at the EAGE Conference & Exhibition."
