MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

MATTERS ARISING
1.
The Board decided the monthly meeting fee remains as is.
2.
Janelle McKenzie / Jason Lockwood that full Curriculum Reports that includes the
teacher’s goals for the following year be given to the Principal and the Board of Trustees
be given a summary of each Curriculum area.
Jonny Hanlon offered to draw up new templates for staff for the Curriculum Reports to
the Principal and Board of Trustees.
3.
The second carpet quote has still to be sent to school from Carpet Mill.
4.
Year 7 and 8 will do the Sausage Sizzle at the working bee as a fundraiser for their Ski
Trip later in the year.
5.
Ian from Bowater Motors will be here next week and will take a photo of the car and van
so Bowater Motors can do a proper assessment – value and trade in value. Without sighting
the vehicles he thought the trade in value for the car would be approximately $12,000.00
and the van $15,000.00.
6.
Vincent Andrew to get someone from a Real Estate Agent or similar to assess the school
houses re their rental value. The Board need to set rents annually and make sure the rent
registered teachers are paying is 75% of market value rent. Non teaching staff and the
public must pay full market rent if living in school houses.

MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE REPORTS

NAG 1: Curriculum Requirements and Student Achievement
1.
Jessica Storer will speak at ANZAC Day Service. Janelle McKenzie to inform Barry
Pomeroy (RSA) of this.
NAG 2: Documentation and Self Review
1.
Janelle McKenzie noted the changes that Board members had on the Employers
Responsibilities Policy. The changes will be made to the Policy and then the Policy will come
back to the April meeting for ratification.
2.
Board members were all give a copy of the Health and Safety Policy to read and will bring
back any amendments to the April Board meeting.
NAG 3: Employer Responsibilities
1.
Melissa Dixon and Jonny Hanlon went to Henley School in Richmond for two days last week
to visit classrooms. They both got a lot of new teaching ideas but more importantly they
were reassured that our school is up there with the city schools.
2.
Principal’s Authorisation sheet (attached) to be typed up with amendments and brought
back to the April meeting for signing by the Board of Trustees.
3.
Shelia Grainger met with Janelle McKenzie and Jason Lockwood re Janelle’s appraisal.
They established Janelle’s goals for 2014.
NAG 4: Financial and Property Management
1.
Vincent Andrew / Jason Lockwood the January and February accounts are adopted.
2.
We need three quotes to send to the Ministry of Education for re-keying the school.
3.
The school should know within the next two weeks the date for when we will be connected
to Fibre Optic.
4.
Janelle McKenzie to ask Rod (husband) if he will install the new toilet at 4 Beach Road.
5.
Quotes were received from Nu-Look Solutions Nelson - $2,009.73 and Clements Windows
& Doors Ltd - $1,563.56 (attached) to replace the bathroom, toilet and louvre windows
along the side of the Washington Street school house.
Jason Lockwood / Jonny Hanlon that we go with Clements Windows & Doors Ltd quote to
replace the windows at the Washington Street school house.
6.
List of chores (attached) for the working bee were in today’s Flyer.
7.
Last school day the pool will be open is Sunday 06 April. The Fire Brigade will empty the
pool at their training on Wednesday 06 April.
NAG 6: Administration
1.
Janelle McKenzie is looking into the supply and price of blazers for our Head Students.
GENERAL BUSINESS
1.
A parent has expressed concern about how fast traffic is travelling passing school buses
when stationery.

Notice to be put in Flyer reminding parents and the public of the legal speed at which
they can overtake or pass a stationery school bus.

Sharon Watson will contact Rural Women’s Head Office and ask for signs to put on
the school buses.

Alison Menary to contact Gerry Tonkin (Police Education Officer) for ideas.

Vincent Andrew will talk to the local police.
2.
Rooms 15 and 16 are visiting the local Marae next term. Jason Lockwood will be the male
speaker if Jonny Hanlon is unavailable due to family commitments.
3.
Katie Barham mentioned that the hand dryer is not working in the girl’s toilets. Also the
boy’s toilet needs renovating or a spruce up – there is a leak either in the sink or toilet plus
cleanliness.
4.
The by-election dates have been advertised in the Flyer (Graeme Miller’s resignation).
5.
Sharon Watson informed the Board that the family will be leaving the district around
about May. She has been talking to Sue Brown who has offered to step into her vacancy.
6.
Sharon Watson reported on the NZ Area School’s Executive meeting held in Wellington
last week


Red Tape Clutter Buster Group (attached)

Building Plans – have five choices eg Lab, Art Room, etc to choose from as this will
reduce costs for schools.

Special Needs – help with funding and support.

Peter Hughes will be speaking at NZ Area School’s Conference.

NZ Area School’s Conference 2014 is 28 – 30 May in Nelson.

Janelle McKenzie, Vincent Andrew and Steve Zeller will attend the NZ Area School’s
Conference in May.
8.
