The modular design of the MSS with the Basic, Advanced
and ASIsafe central modules offers genuine added value:

All required safety functions can be rapidly and easily
parameterized via the MSS ES Software using the drag

An agitator is operated at very high speed in
a mixing plant tank. The effective assurance
of personnel protection in all operating modes
necessitates a simple protective door interlocking
solution. This can be accomplished via a speed
monitor or directly by the MSS. This function
can be easily implemented with the Advanced or
ASIsafe central module. These central modules are
comprised of prefabricated blocks with all required
functions relevant for this application. This saves
time in terms of parameterization.

Application
An industrial robot stacks the filled boxes on
pallets in a palletizer. The open access point
is protected via a non-contact light curtain. An
additional muting function facilitates the pallets’
smooth removal. The detection and evaluation of
the optical safety mechanism, as well as the additional muting sensors are controlled by the MSS. If
a person accesses the protective zone, the hazard
is detected and the machine is safely switched off
or decelerated, depending on its parameterization.

connection to the supervisory control level is

exchanged via bus, which facilitates the display
of messages on an HMI panel or the transfer

safety cells “box filling” and “palletizer” have to

The MSS ES parameterization software serves as an essential part of our modular safety system. It facilitates rapid
and easy parameterization and does away with the laborious wiring of individual functions.
Simple, fast and efficient
All safety and logic functions are available as ready-touse blocks which can easily be interlinked. All function
elements can be positioned using drag & drop.
One key highlight, the MSS ES supports the safety
application’s testing by means of forcing. With this
feature, outputs can be set in a targeted manner and the
downstream safety function’s response can be monitored
in advance – i.e. without any physically connected sensors
or actuators. This ensures the safety application’s simple
and accelerated commissioning.
Diagnostics
As reliable diagnostics tool, our parameterization software
supports the online condition monitoring of each element
as well as of the entire interconnection.
Documentation
Furthermore, in compliance with DIN EN ISO 7200,
comprehensive documentation of the safety functions is
available.
