TH7: Christology Short Title: Full Title: Module Code: Valid From: Administrator: Module Coordinator: Description: Christology Christology TH7 NFQ Level: 8 ECTS Credits: 5 Module Aims To introduce the student to the various quests for the historical Jesus, to examine the historical development of Christological doctrine and to make sense of the teaching of Chalcedon (451) in relation to the various approaches to the question of the knowledge of Jesus. It will also indicate the relevance of pure Chalcedonianism and Neo-Chalcedonianism for understandings of contemporary Christologies and Christian theologies of God as Trinitarian. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to Learning Outcomes Associated Programme Outcomes MO1 understand the difference between the quests for the historical Jesus. PO4 MO2 appreciate the distinctiveness of Jesus’ revelation of God as God of love for all. PO8 MO3 outline the historical development of Christological doctrine in relation to corresponding heresies. PO5 MO4 explain the teaching of the Council of Chalcedon. PO2 MO5 apply the teaching of Chalcedon to the question of the knowledge of Jesus. PO7 MO6 Display a critical awareness of the impact of early Christologies on contemporary ones.
