Module Aims
To introduce the student to the various quests for the historical Jesus, to examine the
historical development of Christological doctrine and to make sense of the teaching of
Chalcedon (451) in relation to the various approaches to the question of the
knowledge of Jesus. It will also indicate the relevance of pure Chalcedonianism and
Neo-Chalcedonianism for understandings of contemporary Christologies and Christian
theologies of God as Trinitarian.
