What We Do:
The Northwest Justice Project (NJP)
Developmental Disabilities Legal Clinic provides
free legal assistance for low-income individuals
and families who have family members with
developmental disabilities and special health care
needs (you must qualify as low-income in order
to receive assistance). Assistance is restricted to
specific legal issues related to:
 TANF
 Medical Assistance
 Overpayments
What
to Expect:
 COPES
and Medicaid Personal Care hours
 Developmental Disabilities Administration
services
 Long-term care services: including nursing
home (or ALF or other facility)
 Care provider terminations based on character,
competence or suitability issues, or criminal
convictions or APS/CPS findings; termination of
providers for criminal background check reasons
(includes childcare providers and in-home care
providers under COPES and MPC programs).
 Adult Day Health: denials, terminations
reductions.
 Mental Health: denial, termination or reduction
of mental health services.
 SSI/SSDI: termination of SSDI/SSI for any nondisability related reason.
 Working Connections Child Care benefits
 Guardianships

Clients are seen by confirmed appointment only.
Appointments are scheduled for the second
Wednesday of every month. Open Doors
advocates make referrals to the clinic by sending a
completed referral form to NJP. NJP will screen
the referral for eligibility. NJP and Open Doors
schedule appointments and interpreters.
Appointments will be scheduled for the next
available opening on a monthly basis.

WHAT TO BRING?
Please bring all documents about the legal issue in
question:
 Court or fair hearing documents
 Notices, copies of assessments.
 If not a U.S. citizen, please bring proof
of legal status.
Eligible clients will be able to meet with a legal advocate during an appointment lasting about one
hour. In most cases, the NJP Developmental Disabilities Legal Clinic does not assist with ongoing
representation.
