201274479898699 D.O.G. Shelter is a non-‐profit totally manned by volunteers. There are 2 full +me employees who live on site and receive a very small salary by U.S. Standards. There wasn’t a greyhound rescue, so I sought these guys out and spend a lot of +me there. Chris Polny, member of Keystone & GCGA Gainesville, greyhound rescuer and lover of canines. Chris and his wife Kendra moved to Tbilisi, Georgia in August 2014 with their two hounds, Pax and Dingo. Kendra is working for the CDC to assist Georgians to eliminate Rabies, Anthrax and Brucellosis. Chris is working at the embassy and at the shelter part +me. They are posted there 2 to 8 years. That’s a lot of dogs that can be rescued! The shelter can hold a maximum of 30 dogs, all of whom were street dogs. All receive the best vet care possible, but by U.S. standards, seriously lacking. Desperate need for ring-‐worm and +ck meds/preven+on. Ring worm has been treated with motor oil. Part of the training is to get away from archaic processes. Georgians are super kind, but a very supers++ous people. The facility is not connected to the grid. A generator run water pump provides water from a well and rain barrels. Currently there are nego+a+ons with the government to hook up to city water. The staff cleans the kennel each day. All of the dogs are bathed, fed, and exercised. The 30 dog limit is firm. Spay/neuter is mandatory. The majority of the dogs are social and crave contact. Currently there are 4 “street” dogs that are being worked with to make adoptable. Volunteers come each day and take dogs on walks in the surrounding foothills. The dogs remember and pick their favorite people. I have been “adopted” by the li4le black dog below-‐”Norrit”. I’m working on Kendra to bring a 3rd “hound” into the pack. Small things like Parasite treatment grooming gloves, treats, and kong-‐like toys make a world of difference. The local economy has nothing even close to what is taken for granted at Wal-‐
Mart. I have already place 4 Amazon orders to get these guys tooth brushes and nail clippers. Thebe4er these guys look and socialize, the easier to get adopted. My goal is to take what I have learned from groups such as Keystone and GCGA Gainesville and help re-‐create the gic that was given to me. These dogs didn’t ask to be here. There are really good people here that need a li4le help. That change in the car ashtray can buy a bag of dog food here. Please help if you can Chris & Rocco 2006 Chris and Philip 2014 Any dona+ons can be mailed to me at the U.S. Embassy: Chris Polny Unit 7060 Box 14 DPO AE 09742 Any liquids have to be non-‐flammable, in a plas+c bo4le under 16 ounces and clearly labeled on the custom form.
