INTRODUCTION
ENQUIRIES
This 2-day course is an introduction to microfluidic
sensors, fabrication techniques and the application of
this technology in today’s life such as lab-on-chip, micro
robotic and sensing instrumentation. It is intended for
those who are interested in becoming involved in the
microfluidics field and micro three-dimensional (3D)
fabrication technology. This course will provide the
fundamental outlines on what possible and the methods
on how the devices are designed and fabricated. The
main objective of this course is to assist the attendees
with comprehensive understanding on identifying the
suitable material and fabrication technique for a given
microfluidic application, to understand modern trends
and development in the field of micro 3D fabrication
technique and to learn the application examples of
microfluidic components in bio medical devices.
Technical:
LEARNING OUTCOMES
i. Able to understand on the implementation of fluid
behaviour as sensing element in MEMS sensor
ii. Able to understand the current technology of micro
3D fabrication technique
iii. Able to generate ideas on fabricating micro fluidic
channel as well as understanding the integration of
the sensor and its readout circuitry.
METHODOLOGY
This course will be divided into lectures and hands on
sessions. The theoretical of fluidic behaviour and the
fabrication techniques will be elaborated to the
participant through lectures. Then, the participants will
be split into a few groups to hands on sessions for
handling the design and fabrication of microfluidic
channels. The participants will experience hands on in
lithography technique and microfluidic channels
fabrication. The hands on sessions will be conducted in
the Nanofabrication and Functional Materials (NFM)
laboratory.
