COURSE DESCRIPTION
We are delighted to organize the 1st Audiology Intensive
Course for ORL Postgraduate Candidates held in USM
Health Campus, Kelantan. This intensive two-and-half
day course will provide participants with the essential
understanding of clinical audiology which is beneficial in
otological practice. As a team, mutual collaboration between otology and audiology team leads to effective clinical management.
In this course, renowned experts in the fields of audiology
and otology will cover important audiological topics
including basic (pure tone audiometry, tympanometry
etc.) and advanced (otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem response, cochlear implant etc.). To make the course
more beneficial, case discussions and simulated viva
sessions on audiology-related topics will be held.
Participants are also encouraged to bring any interesting
cases for more fruitful discussions.
Course Objectives
To enhance participants’ understanding of clinical audiology via lectures and case discussions
To strengthen the knowledge of basic physics (sound
transmission and attenuation) for effectively describing the nature of CHL and SNHL
To acquire basic and advanced knowledge of PTA
(air-bone-gap issues, masking etc.), tympanometry
and acoustic reflex
To effectively integrate clinical test results in order
to achieve an accurate diagnosis
To gain knowledge in advanced audiological tests
(OAE, , ABR, ECochG, CERA etc.) and amplification devices (hearing aids, BAHA, cochlear implants
etc.)
