Meet the trainers Jo Medlin has been teaching adult literacy and numeracy for two decades and coordinates this course, Cert l in Access to Vocational Pathways, A Course in Academic Foundation Skills and the L&N SEE program. In addition to teaching and assessing LLN, she has coordinated the LLN mapping of training packages for the Manufacturing Skills Association on behalf of TAFE NSW for several years. Jo’s areas of interest include designing resources and delivering programs for students at LLN pre-level ACSF to 3, Indigenous learners in remote communities and online learners. She holds a Masters in Adult Education and Training and was a finalist in the 2013 Australian training awards (Excellence in LLN Practice Award). Pam Osmond has had a long career in Adult Basic Education in TAFE as teacher, manager and curriculum developer. As well as her work on the Graduate Diploma course at OTEN, Pam is a lecturer at UTS on the Grad Dip LLN and B Ed Adult Education courses. Her particular interest is in resource development, having written a range of teaching / learning resources for both TAFE and other organisations. Pam is a long term active member of the NSW Adult Literacy & Numeracy Council, and is at present an executive member. Jill Finch has taught literacy and numeracy to adults for more than 30 years. A Head Teacher for 25 years, Jill has broad experience across many programs, locations and learners, from beginner literacy and numeracy through to graduate level programs and delivery of professional development. She has worked with volunteers, in trades, in community and indigenous programs, and in industry/ workplace contexts. She has also been regularly involved in curriculum development, LLN policy review, and teacher practicums. Jill has a long involvement in the development of the adult LLN field through active roles in union and professional organisations. She was President of the NSW Adult Literacy & Numeracy Council for many years. Her areas of interest include team teaching in vocational LLN /Learner Support, and working with Indigenous learners. Dilys Norrish is the Acting Head Teacher of ABE at OTEN. She worked in the LLN field as a teacher and learning designer in England, America and New Zealand before joining TAFE in 1984. Dilys has completed a Grad Dip TESL, a Grad Dip Adult Ed (Basic) and a MA in Language and Literacy. Dilys’ particular area of expertise is in LLN resource development, both for learners and teachers, and she is the author of numerous books, articles and online resources. Lorraine Eagles has been teaching ESOL for over 25 years and was Head Teacher of ESOL and Languages at OTEN for 16 years before she retired this year. She wrote the TESOL unit of this course. Lorraine now does contract work for OTEN and university in TESOL and Academic English. Lorraine has been involved in supervising and mentoring teachers in TAFE and has trained ESOL teachers overseas.
