Design Review Panel – Pilot Project
PANEL MEMBERS
Vincent P. Colizza, OAA, MRAIC, AIA
Vincent Colizza is the principal of Vincent P. Colizza Architects,
responsible for Commercial and Institutional projects in Canada,
United States and South America, with over 34 years of experience
in major urban design and architectural projects. Many of these
projects have been the recipients of design awards. Vincent is a
former graduate and sessional lecturer at the School of
Architecture, Carleton University, a member of the Canadian Urban
Institute and former chairman of the City of Ottawa West Urban
Design Review Panel. As a native of Hamilton, Ontario he possesses
a keen interest in the redevelopment of the urban core.
Robert Freedman – MRAIC, AICP, LSUC
Robert Freedman, Principal of Freedman Urban Solutions, is an
Urban Design, Planning and Development Advisor with over twentyfive years of experience working in a variety of urban and suburban
environments. Between 2002 and 2013, Robert was the Director of
Urban Design for the City of Toronto where he took the lead on a
number of major initiatives including the creation of design
guidelines for mid-rise and tall buildings, citywide streetscape design
standards and the establishment of the City's Design Review Panel.
Prior to returning to Toronto in 2002, Mr. Freedman was an urban
designer for nine years with UDA, a Pittsburgh based design firm,
where he became an expert in the design charrette process working
on initiatives in over twenty cities across the U.S. Robert has a
multidisciplinary background and holds degrees in Urban Design
(CUNY), Architecture (UBC) and Law (U of T). He is also a founding
member and Chairman of the Board of the Council for Canadian
Urbanism (CanU), a Board Member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI
Toronto) and is a frequent lecturer and writer on urban design,
development and planning issues.

Mary Jo Hind, OAA, NSAA, FRAIC, LEED Green
Associate
Mary Jo Hind is Design Principal of the Dundas office of Perkins+Will
Canada. As co-founder of Vermeulen Hind Architects, she has
worked on numerous healthcare and academic projects throughout
Southern Ontario since 1992. She has a strong interest in
integrating building architecture, landscaping and interiors into
unique site-specific design responses. Mary Jo graduated with a
Bachelor of Architecture from Carleton University and was an
Ontario Association of Architects Gold Medalist. She served on the
Dundas Downtown Beautification Committee and is a Fellow of the
RAIC.
J.A. (Sandy) McIntosh, B.ES, M.Arch, OAA, LEED Green
Associate
Sandy studied Urban Planning at the University of Waterloo, and
went on to receive his Master of Architecture from the University of
Toronto. Raised in Hamilton, Sandy was an active member of the
downtown music and arts community and is co-creator and
founding partner of Hamilton’s own Sonic Unyon Records. He
currently resides and works in Dundas as a Design Architect and
Project Manager with Perkins+Will Canada and is involved in a range
of new construction, adaptive reuse, renovation and master
planning projects. Sandy has an active interest in the restoration and
renewal of heritage projects, and recently completed the
revitalization of Carnegie Gallery for the Dundas Arts Community
Foundation. With over 25 years of creative exploration through
architecture, urban design, planning, graphic design, music and
marketing, Sandy enjoys the mystery of creation, ideas, places and
spaces; how each connect and grow respectfully together.
Mario Patitucci, OALA CSLA
Mario Patitucci is a Landscape Architect with over 15 years of
experience in Canada. He is a registered landscape architect in the
Province of Ontario, and a full member of the Canadian Society of
Landscape Architects (CSLA). He has extensive experience in the
design of public and private spaces including numerous golf courses
and communities across southern Ontario. Mario is the founder of

adesso design, based in Hamilton, Ontario. His vision to create a
firm that stretches beyond the boundaries of landscape
architecture. With a focus on sustainable development the firm is
actively involved in a number of innovative green roof and rooftop
amenity space projects in Toronto and the Greater Hamilton Area. A
graduate of the landscape architecture program at the University of
Toronto, Mario relocated to Hamilton in 2003 where he established
his design firm in 2008. Mario is involved in a number of important
developments in the downtown core and is passionate about the
revitalization of Hamilton.
David Premi, OAA, MRAIC, LEED AP
David Premi received a Bachelor of Architecture at Dalhousie
University following a degree in Technology from Ryerson
University. After practicing architecture for twenty years in Toronto,
David returned to his native Hamilton to establish his own practice
in 2005. His firm provides service to both public and private sector
clients, and has been responsible for many award winning projects.
David co-authors a monthly column in the Hamilton Spectator, and
is co-founder of Rethink/ Renewal, a local collective of planning and
design professionals. David has taught at both Mohawk College and
McMaster University, and is the current President of the Hamilton
Arts Council.
Yasin Visram, ARB, RIBA, OAA (IA), MRAIC, LEED AP
Yasin Visram has more than 20 years of experience with
architectural and urban design projects locally, nationally and
internationally. His project work ranges from new build, adaptive reuse, health care, mixed-use, public spaces and urban regeneration
as well as urban and campus master planning projects. Yasin
graduated with a Masters of Architecture from Syracuse University,
and undertook undergraduate studies from the School of
Architecture, at the University of British Columbia. He served as a
Board member with AIA /UK Chapter (2001-2003), in London (UK).
Yasin has also taught in design studios, at Syracuse University
(Florence, Italy), Swire School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic
University, and has been a guest critic in design studios, at
University of Hong Kong School of Architecture. He has also

coordinated and adjudicated design competitions and professional
design charrettes, as well as leading competition - winning projects
in the United Kingdom, Asia and the Middle East. In 2004, Yasin was
awarded a certificate of Merit by the AIA/UK Chapter, in London. His
perspective on architecture and urbanism emphasize the synergies
between connectivity, sustainability, urban health and wellness, and
the increase and inherent design value in the diversity of Canada's
multi-cultural cities.
James Webb, MCIP, RPP
James Webb is the Principal of WEBB Planning Consultants Inc., a
land use planning firm based in Hamilton, Ontario. With over 25
years of progressive experience as a land use planner, James began
his planning career in Toronto and spent a period in the KitchenerWaterloo area. James relocated to the City of Hamilton in 1998 in
the employ of local planning firms before establishing his own
professional practice in 2005. WEBB Planning Consultants Inc. is a
full service land use planning firm specializing in areas including land
development, municipal planning approvals, policy planning,
brownfield redevelopment, downtown revitalization, feasibility
studies and expert evidence before the Ontario Municipal Board.
The firm has successfully implemented a range of projects including
greenfield developments, infill and redevelopment within
established areas, the adaptive re-use of heritage buildings and
significant employment and public service facilities including the
McMaster Innovation Park, the Pan-Am Games Soccer Stadium and
the new Children’s Treatment Centre on behalf of Hamilton Health
Sciences. James is a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners
(CIP) and the Ontario Provincial Planners Institute (OPPI) and a
Registered Professional Planner.
Richard Witt, BES BArch, OAA, MRAIC, LEED AP
Richard is an architect whose work is characterised by a strong
interest in mixed use urban development, locally and
internationally, and he has lived and worked in several countries on
a wide variety of projects which include headquarters for some of
the world's largest organisations. As a Principal of Quadrangle
Architects in Toronto his work is focused around a loosely defined
theme of community building in its broadest sense, with current

projects ranging from urban midrise buildings to large scale master
plans across residential, commercial and retail uses, often featuring
adaptive reuse and incorporating existing buildings. He is a strong
believer in, and advocate for, the architectural profession and
development industry. Supplementary appointments currently
include Chair of the Canadian chapter of the Council on Tall
Buildings and Urban Habitat, Advisory Board Member of the Urban
Land Institute and Richard is a past chair of the Toronto Society of
Architects.
