BUSINESS AND CULTURE
July 20 – 31, 2015
(Arrive July 19; depart August 1)
International organizations thinking about or already
doing business with U.S. companies gain a competitive
edge when they have a clear and defined understanding
of the U.S. corporate and cultural environments.
In the summer of 2015, a two-week business
globalization seminar will be offered by Saginaw Valley
State University (SVSU), a fully-accredited public university
in the state of Michigan.
The intent and content of this seminar has been
created at the request of international university
partners of SVSU in China, India, Ghana, and Brazil. The
seminar, endorsed by these schools, gives attendees the
assurance that this program is thorough, targeted, and
professionally presented. A certificate will be awarded
upon the completion of the program (this is a non-credit
program).
Seminar presenters include Ph.D. faculty and endowed
chairs with excellent academic credentials as well as
global, corporate experience. Field trips will include
escorted visits to Fortune 100 and 500 companies, as well
as to smaller, regional businesses.

SEMINAR COSTS
Tuition: $2,000.00 (U.S.) includes seminar, housing and some meals.
Excludes airfare and health insurance. Visitor Visa required (not student visa).
Registration: Space is limited. Acceptance is first-request, first-served.
Priority application Registration deadline is May 15, 2015.
A 50% deposit ($1,000.00 U.S.) must accompany the completed application.

BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS OF THREE SEMINAR PRESENTERS:
Joseph Ofori-Dankwa, Ph.D.
George Puia, Ph.D.
Rama Yelkur, D.B.A., CGBP
Dr. Ofori-Dankwa is a professor of
management at Saginaw Valley State
University (SVSU) and the H.R. Wickes
Endowed Professor in International
Business Studies.
George Puia is the Dow Chemical
Company Centennial Chair in Global
Business at SVSU. He holds a Ph.D.
in Strategic Management from the
University of Kansas with minors in
International Business and Research
Methods. Prior to completing his
doctorate, Professor Puia had significant
management experience domestically
and abroad. He established distribution
networks for an industrial firm in
Southeast Asia and operated a joint
venture in Jeddah Saudi Arabia.
Rama Yelkur is dean and professor at
SVSU’s AACSB-International accredited
College of Business & Management.
Dr. Yelkur’s research has appeared in
International Business Review, Journal of
Advertising Research, Services Marketing
Quarterly, Journal of Euromarketing,
Journal of Marketing Communications,
Journal of Global Academy of Marketing
Science, Journal of International
Marketing and Marketing Research, and
Business Horizons, among others.
Born in Ghana, West Africa, Professor
Ofori-Dankwa has a law degree from
the University of Ghana, Master degree
in Management & Technology from the
University of Wales, Cardiff and Masters
and Ph.D. degrees in Organizational
Behavior from Michigan State University.
His lecturers and study abroad courses
include: International Business, Principles
of Management, Organizational Behavior,
Diversity, and Leadership.
Professor Ofori-Dankwa has consulted,
present workshops and seminars worldwide with corporations such as Ford
Motor Corporation and Dow Chemical
Corporation, in the United States and TSMC
and Acton corporations in Taiwan, ROC.
He maintains an active scholarly profile
and has published in journals such as the
Academy of Management Review, Strategic
Management Journal, Organization Science,
Human Relations and Organization Studies.
His research interests are in examining
factors associated with firm performance
and corporate social responsibility in
emerging economies, understanding
paradox in organizations and in particular
focusing on the concept of Diversimilarity.
Professor Ofori-Dankwa actively mentors
SVSU students, junior faculty and serves as
a life coach.
Dr. Puia has conducted business in over
40 countries and has authored books,
book chapters, case studies and over
30 refereed articles on international
business. He recently was named and
AGBA Distinguished Fellow by the
Academy for Global Advancement – a
life achievement award for his work and
scholarship in global business.
Professor Puia also holds the Certified
Global Business Practitioner (CGRP)
certification and has served as editor of
the Case Research Journal. He currently
serves on the editorial board of the Baltic
Journal of Management, an Emerald
Journal.
Dean Yelkur serves on public and private
boards, and has extensive consulting
experience in sports marketing,
advertising and sponsorships with
organizations such as Kimberly Clark,
NBC Universal and the National Football
League (NFL). Her work on Super Bowl
advertising effectiveness and likeability
of commercials was cited in national
media including the Wall Street Journal,
Kiplinger and USA Today.
Dr. Yelkur has conducted corporate
training internationally and has taught in
France, Portugal, Spain and Vietnam, and
has extensive experience in establishing
partnerships with universities in Greece,
Ireland, Netherlands, China and India.
Her passion is to educate business
students to become globally competent
and provide them with the skills to
function in a contemporary, globallyinterviewed, technologically advanced
workplace.
