I wish I was reporting to you about
great vacations, family reunions, new
adventures and looking forward to my
next vacation but that is not the message
of this issue’s report.
I need to report on scam companies
and offer a beware to you. I am

TAHOE WINTER:
Perseverance in the face of challenges
After consecutive years of below average
snowfall, local hopes are elevated for
a plentiful Lake Tahoe winter. Again,
weather prognostications are diverse and
varied. I have seen everything from an
above normal Farmer’s Almanac forecast,
to a very average National Weather
Service prediction based on a static La
Nina or El Nino patterns, while others see
500 inches of snowfall for the season as a
real possibility. Average snowfall for Lake
Tahoe is 430 inches. Whatever comes
over the horizon; however it manifests
itself, magnificent, grand or lean, Tahoe’s
gift of an unpredictable winter will exceed
its predictions.
Whatever the season brings, The Olympic
Village Inn Activities and Recreation
Department will be having a wide range
of activities and events to keep you busy
and entertained throughout the winter
and spring. Enjoy ski and snowboard tours
of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows
with our expert staff, snowshoe tours,
social events, yoga and water aerobic
classes, and creative and artistic pursuits.
Remember, your Activities Staff has a great

deal of local knowledge and information,
guided by many years of experience
to help you idea generate and create a
perfect winter visit. Spencer Malone, my
colleague in Recreation/Activities and
local expert skier, adds the following:
“After two years of lackluster winters here
in the Tahoe region I am very excited
for the upcoming ski and snowboard
season. The fall weather turned cold very
quickly this year and has the local ski and
snowboard community chomping at the
bit to hit the slopes and hungry for the
fresh powder we are used to. New to
our activities schedule this season will
be a guided snowboard tour that I am
hosting to expand our activity offerings
to new participants and encourage the
enjoyment of our winter resort experience
by everyone, no matter which direction
they prefer to slide down the mountain.

they get my phone number) and post
cards suggesting that their company has
a buyer for my unit or can get me out of
maintenance fees forever.
You may get invited to a seminar and
then the real trouble starts and they put
fear in your mind. They are looking for
money up front to transact a deal.
These scam companies may take the
money and run, they may close a deal or
transfer your ownership into a LLC or a
dead persons name and never pay OVI
dues (and then we have to foreclose).
They may take the ownership and put
it on the internet for $1 sales price. All
of this is bad.
We recently signed up with a company
that tracks these fraudulent companies
and we will try to block ownership
transfers by companies which do not
follow up on their responsibilities.
There are thousands and thousands of
these frauds going on nationwide and I
urge you to use caution and never pay
money up front.
I look forward to writing about better
things next time but, for now, I feel you
need to be aware.
Happy Holidays.

President’s Report

President
My report will address the two most important issues concerning the future of OVI, the
Squaw Valley Development Plans and the new Room Refurbishment project here at OVI.
Squaw Valley Development
Currently the development company (Squaw Valley Real Estate LLC) is revising their
plans based upon input from many parties. We have been monitoring the project since
inception. There are two conceptual models of the plan on display at the Village (Base
Camp Room) although I imagine these will be revised based upon anticipated revisions.
We will continue to update you through the newsletters, but to stay current between
newsletters go to our website: olympicvillageinn.com (HOA) (Squaw Valley Specific
Plan). We have provided information on the website regarding the development and,
specifically, information from the Board of Directors.
Room Refurbishment
As previously mentioned, we have fully refurbished 11 rooms funded by reserves. We
have set aside room 204 as a model room and you can view pictures of the remodel
at our website. Look under the tab HOA then click Room Refurbishment. Two of the
pictures are printed in this newsletter, just above the President’s Report.
At the April, 2014 Budget Board Meeting the Board of Directors will discuss a plan
to complete the remaining 79 rooms. At this time we are tentatively looking at
completing 20 rooms per year at a cost of $23,000 per room. As you know the resort
management has done an excellent job maintaining the rooms over the years, but the
rooms now need to be remodeled according to the feedback we have received from
those filling out comment cards. This will be the only comprehensive refurbishment
project undertaken since OVI opened in 1982.
We are considering an additional contribution to reserves to be specifically allocated
to the room refurbishment project. Tentatively, we are considering $100 per week of
ownership, per year (for four years) added to the dues to complete the project, starting
June 1, 2014.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Holiday Season.

TAHOE WINTER:
Can you believe winter is upon us all ready! Where did the summer go? We hope that
you all enjoyed your summer and took the time to vacation. Since we have many new
owners that are not familiar with how the rental program works I thought that I would
bullet it in this newsletter as a refresher to us all.
(Continued from page 1)

Perseverance in the
face of challenges
With a few snowfalls on the ground
already, and snow-makers firing at the
resorts all over the region, it is surely
only a short matter of time before the
lifts start spinning and we return to the
most wonderful time of the year!”
New projects for winter 2013-14
highlight Squaw Valley and Alpine
Meadows’ dedication to creating
a welcoming and extraordinary
experience for guests with snowmaking
and grooming improvements, new
terrain park features, and base area
enhancements. Activities for non skiers
and snowboarders have been increased
with the availability of aerial tram rides,
ice skating, snow ventures activity zone
with mini snowmobiles and tubing,
live music and dog sledding and horse
drawn sleigh rides as the snow pack
increases. Northstar California has
also continued to improve and add
to its growing village atmosphere and
mountain terrain. Northstar provides
a terrific option for skiers, riders or
just visiting and taking in a wide range
of festivities, activities and events
throughout the season.
Rarely does winter posses a motionless
moment. The balance that exists
between change and traditions are
never predictable. It proceeds with
its impetuous nature and offers us
something new to experience each
day. Expectations have been renewed
and fresh experiences are waiting to be
found. I look forward to your return.
Remember… make vacationing a part of your lifestyle.
The benefits for our mental and physical health are so rewarding. Olympic Village Inn is
a gem for vacationing and as Squaw Valley continues to grow and expand vacationing
will only get better. So come on and Vacation… There’s no better time than now!
