Your pets will, of course, be unhappy if you pass away before they do, but you can ease their transition into a new living situation by planning ahead. Our Continuing Care Program is set up to do just that, and is available to any of our members who choose to take advantage of it. One of our supporters, April Glatt, is an attorney who specializes in estate planning. She suggests a Pet Trust to complement our Continuing Care Program. To learn more about this option, contact April at [email protected] or 650/573-9500. At first we weren’t sure if he was really 9, but we’ve seen how timidly he jumps up and down from the beds and couches and how he’s not active most of the day. That is perfect for us as all anyone in our family wants to do is hold and pet him. Oliver is such a love…We can’t imagine a better cat and we are so grateful to you for helping place him with us! - the Hanson family Me and My Shadow “It has been a month since we adopted Joy (renamed Shadow, which suits her well). Every time I say to myself ‘I have no idea where the cat is,’ there she is, right next to me. She bonded quickly with both of us, and the dogs, and has taken over the household. Keep doing awesome work! Another stray kitten has a very happy home.” - Eileen nd Kody Chelsea a From Her Family to Ours… “Bella is the sweetest, gentlest, cat you could know. She does not have a diva catitude at all! She loves being in my lap, at my desk with me to be petted. I am so grateful to PHS for the love and care they give their animals. Bella is so precious to me. Thank you PHS family! Love & Many Blessings.” - Deborah & Bella Bella Shadow Oliver Barney is a model! Mittens Springtime Successes We are finding homes for almost a dozen animals every day, on average! Here are a few recent placements. A pit bull puppy we named Suzi was left in our after hours kennels with minor fractures in her hind leg. A staff member fostered Suzi for a few weeks until she was physically healed. When it came time for us to select a sweet dog to visit 9-12 years olds attending our Animal Camp, we hand-picked Suzi. Two campers – sisters – went home that evening and wouldn’t stop raving about Suzi. A week later, Suzi had a new loving family! The two girls had never had a dog so everything was new for them and their parents, but we were Aimee D. of San Francisco made what happy to help them get started on the she called “the biggest decision of her right paw. Supporting PHS/SPCA Ways to Give We receive no funding from Humane Society of the U.S., ASPCA or any national animal welfare organization. Our animals depend on your support. For information about any of the options below, please contact Lisa Van Buskirk at 650/340-7022 x327, or [email protected] or go to our website PHS-SPCA.org and click on Donate. General Donations General donations can be made by phone, mail, or online. You can also mail your check or credit card number (including expiration date & phone number) to: Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA 94010. Gifts of Stock Gifts of stock offer two-fold savings. Donors pay no capital gains on the increased value of the appreciated stock and receive a tax deduction for the full market value at the time of the gift. Transferring securities is easy. Monthly Giving...Faithful Friends You can set up automatic payments for credit cards and electronic bank transfers, or we can mail you envelopes for the year if you’d like to write checks. After the end of the year we send a summary letter for your records, so you don’t have to keep track of individual letters for each donation. You can now submit your info online at PHS-SPCA.org/monthly. Matching Gifts Many companies match (double or even triple!) their employee’s charitable contributions. Simply check with your employer or Human Resources Department to see if they will match your gift. Or, visit our website PHS-SPCA.org for a partial list of participating employers. Planned Gifts By remembering PHS/SPCA in your will, trust, or other type of planned gift, you can provide for your family and friends while still making a meaningful gift to help animals. Become a member of our Forever Friends Legacy Society and protect the lives of innocent animals for years to come. Memorial and Honor Gifts Memorial gifts are a thoughtful way to honor the memory of a deceased pet or person. We send the family a notification card. If the donation is $150 or more, we will permanently display the deceased’s name on our Memorial Wall. You can also make gifts to honor someone during their lifetime. Birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements and “thinking of you” occasions are some events you might consider for an honor gift. Vehicle Donations Donate your car, even if it won’t pass smog or isn’t running. We handle all the paperwork, allowing you to gain a nice tax deduction while avoiding the hassle of selling. We can arrange to have your vehicle picked up, or can coordinate a drop off. The process is simple and easy! Visit PHS-SPCA.org/cars to submit your information online, or contact Dana Troy: 650/340-7022 x389, [email protected]. Bricks & Bowls: Own a Piece of PHS/SPCA! We have fun, unique naming opportunities for you or a loved one. List your name, the name of a beloved family member, friend, or pet, or other wording of your choice on a personalized engraved brick or pet bowl plaque. We display them permanently at our Center for Compassion for donations starting at $1,000, payable in installments if desired. Adoptable Animals (updated daily) New Ways to Promote our Vital Spay/Neuter Work Forty-one years ago when we opened our low-cost Spay/Neuter Clinic (the first of its kind in the U.S.), our “I’m Into S&N” gear would have been shocking. We should have used it! In reality, we didn’t need a risqué slogan on T-shirts or hats. As James Earl Jones’ character said in the movie Field of Dreams, “Build it and they will come.” And, they did. In 1972, the year before we opened our clinic, PHS/SPCA took in over 45,000 unwanted dogs and cats. The year after we opened, the number of incoming animals took a sharp, downward, turn which continued for decades. We added a mobile clinic seven years ago, and began offering free fixes for pets in targeted communities. The number of homeless dogs and cats has since dipped below 6,000. This year, we’re averaging six mobile clinics per month and making a huge difference. Spay/Neuter remains a cornerstone of our work. You can support it by spreading the word, making a gift, or sporting a shirt or hat, available in our Furchandise store. ext 823 340-8200 Animal Rescue & Control Behavior Consultations ext 667 Behavior Helpline ext 183 Behavior Helpline en Español ext 186 Car Donations ext 389 Continuing Care (for pets) ext 327 Dead Animal Reporting Line ext 603 Directions ext 821 Donations ext 389 Education Programs (including tours) ext 369 Job Openings PHS-SPCA.org Licensing 363-4220 Media/Speakers Bureau 685-8510 Obedience Classes ext 667 Pet Assisted Therapy ext 328 Pet Loss Support Group ext 344 Planned Giving ext 327 Rental Referrals ext 344 Reporting Animal Cruelty ext 601 Spay/Neuter Clinic 340-7015 Special Events ext 375 Volunteering ext 328 Wildlife Care Center ext 314 Pick of the Litter Resale Shop 1127 Chula Vista in Burlingame 344-1662 Shelter Hours & Locations Weekdays: 11 am-7 pm Weekends: 11 am-6 pm Potential adopters should arrive an hour before closing to complete an adoption.
